Group Movement

Post by TimSnoddy »

I can see how to form a group. When I attempt to move the group only one unit moves. The units in the group still have the dotted outline. Is this how group movement is displayed and you actually move each unit individually?

That is correct, you move each unit individually still. Be careful as you could move in such a way to break up your group. Sometimes that is desired but sometimes inadvertent!

So the advantage of group movement is that they all move/act before the turn passes to the enemy? Is that right? THanks.

Ken not only is that correct (each unit in a group would be able to move once before your opponent could react) but if instead of moving you decided to fire, each unit that has LOS and APs to fire at the targeted unit would add +1 to the attack.

For example you have two LMG34s adjacent to each other and a Soviet Rifle squad moves into the open (Clear terrain) in a dash for a VP hex. The German player decides to group fire at it. They would select both units using the CRTL key, decide on any CAPs to add to the attack, and then fire. Assuming they Soviet player used Cautious Movement (and that Rules option was on) and the German player used 2 CAPs (they really wanted to get it before the VP), it would be 4 FP + 2 CAPs + 1 Group Fire bonus (one unit) + 2D6 = Total AV. Then you would compare that to the Rifles DV (12 Frontal iirc). So a roll of 5 or more would hit; a roll of 9 or more would cause a critical (instant kill).
