Runtime error!

Hello,

I bought Team Assault months ago, and played without problems. Now I am trying to play it on my upgraded computer, but every time I start the game, I see the "Zeal" and "Slitherine" intro videos, and when the "Loading" screen comes up, the game crashes and I get an error message titled: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" saying: "Runtime Error!" (I've attached the image of the window).

I have an Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, and 16 GB of RAM, with Windows 7 64 Bit (Service Pack 1).

I re-installed the game, but it made no difference. I also try to update the game (in hope of a solution) and it says there is a newer version available but then it says: Error: Unable to download file. An error occured while trying to open an FTP file. The only thing that does work is the Force Builder.

I would really love to be able to play this great game again! I hope you can help me.

So you are saying you are having two issue?
A runtime error and a downloading issue.

What is the link you are going to for the download or how are you trying to do the download?
What version of the game are you running? (bottom right on the main menu)

Yes, they are in fact two different issues: a runtime error and a downloading error.

To update, I click on the "CHECK FOR UPDATE" button on the Game Menu. (I am attaching images of the download and error messages). Is there an alternative download/update source?

As for the version of the game that I am running, it is the version that installs from the DVD. I cannot see the main menu, because the runtime error crashes the game at the "Loading" screen.

I have downloaded and re-installed both Microsoft's .net framework and Visual C++ Redistributable, and the game still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Sorry - i am having major network issue at the moment - been down for the last 48 hours. Using a "hot spot" just to quick post this.
Let me see what I can come up with and try and get back to you. Hopefully someone else might jump in here though.

Try uninstall the game and reinstall it in a different folder than Program Files (x86).

I uninstalled the game, then re-installed it in a new directory and updated it to 1.2. Unfortunately, the error still occurs.

I know a lot of times solving these problems requires testing several possible solutions, so I'm grateful for your time and further suggestions.

When you have made the upgrade did you reinstalled Windows? Or is it the same Windows?

I played the game before on Windows Vista (32-Bit). Then I upgraded most of the computer's components (memory, graphics card, processor... it's practically a new computer) and had Windows 7 (64-Bit) installed.

I've tried the "Run in compatibility mode" option for the TA.exe, and it makes no difference. The Runtime Error always occurs right after the "Slitherine" logo intro video.

Has anyone run this game on a 64-Bit operating system?

Most of people have nowadays 64-bit operative systems. I have already run the game myself in Windows 7 x64.
How many visual c++ versions you have installed in your Windows?

Well, I just checked. I'm attaching an image with the Visual C++ versions that are installed on my computer. (I didn't know I had so many! I guess many programs install whatever version they need, and the new version doesn't overwrite old ones) Could that be the problem? Do I need to keep all of them, or just the latest one? If I uninstall older versions, will my older programs still work?

Theoretically, you only need one of each, and the most update version should be enough:

2005
2005 x64
2008 x86
2008 x64
2010 x64
2010 x86
2012 x64
2012 x86

Visual J doesn't count.

But sometimes it you'll have to uninstall all and then install one by one again.

I uninstalled every single version of Visual C++ I had, then downloaded and installed the latest ones for each on the list (as shown on the attached image).

Unfortunately, this didn't fix the error. What should I try next?

1. click on "START" (on Windows 8 Press "Windows Key" + "R" and go to 3)
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
