Brief Update

Post by JimmyC »

Europe
With complete air supremacy, the Luftwaffe mercilessly pounded all Russian troops and armour around the Volga. This allowed our ground forces to capture all Russian held cities lying on the Volga, whilst our own armour quickly annihilated any remaining Russian resistance on the other side. This allowed us to transfer the bulk of our ground and air assets to the South for the drive on the Caucuses. The Russian troops valiantly held the river crossings leading to the oil field and cities beyond, but vastly outnumbered and with no air support, they could only withhold momentarily before our ground forces were able to break through.

The Russian troops hold strong defensive positions behind the river line. However with more and more Axis reinforcements arriving and with complete air supremacy, it is only a matter of time before they are destroyed.

Seeing the futility in continuing the fight, the Russian generals rose up and overthrew Stalin, allowing them to sue for peace. This is a resounding victory for the Wehrmacht and leaves only the British Commonwealth forces to oppose us.

The Russian bear is humbled

However, our intention of quickly driving south through the Caucuses to take Baghdad from the north is being forestalled by rogue Russian troops who have ignored the order to surrender and are holding strong positions in the mountains. These troops will have to be dealt with before our European forces can drive down towards the Middle East.

Egypt
After annihilating all resistance to the West of the Suez Canal, our forces were stopped cold by the fortification bombarding our troops attempting to cross, in addition to British troops stationed to the other side. A lack of reliable intelligence regarding the British defensive positions (and particularly the British fort) has left our troops stuck to the West of the Canal with no easy way to cross. The British are currently streaming reinforcements to the area and it is feared that attempting to force the crossing will result in significant casualties. However with the European theatre now won and rumors of a super weapon currently under development in the U.S.A., high command are willing to accept such casualties if it means that the current momentum against the British is maintained. In the meantime, frantic efforts are being made to transport troops by other means (such as ship transport and air) to the Eastern side of the Suez.

Our intended quick breakthrough and subsequent Blitzkrieg has been stopped cold by the difficulty of crossing the Suez whilst under direct bombardment by the British fortifications. British reinforcements currently racing to the area will make the crossing all the more costly.

Mediterranean
The Kriegsmarine successfully broke through the Dardanelles and destroyed all British shipping in the area. Whilst Gibraltar was briefly bombarded, it was decided to bypass it and instead send our capital ships to support the operations in Egypt. Concurrent with the forcing of the straits, our ground units have completely captured all cities in North Africa from the Americans.

Meanwhile, the Maria Regina have been supporting a landing of our troops on Cyprus, as the capture of its air fields should allow the Luftwaffe to support operations in the Middle East. After initially engaging and destroying a British Cruiser and Destroyer, our transports were moved in to commence the landing. It was discovered that this was just a ruse by the British, with them having kept a Battleship and submarine in reserve, which were used to sink our transports before our troops could disembark. A brief and bloody battle was then fought with our Italian allies sustaining significant damage, but finally sending the British vessels to the bottom of the ocean. We are therefore pressing ahead with the invasion of Cyprus, although the successful capture has likely been delayed by 1.5 months due to the British actions.
