The Endless War

Post by slowgtp »

Hey all, this is my first post as I've been a longtime reader and player. I've gone from Poland to Stalingrad and Moscow, only to be relentlessly pushed back time and again. However, my veteran Army is poised to strike back! Here is the situation:

19 FEBRUARY 1943

Under orders from the Fuhrer and Generalfeldmarschall von Manstein, we are to retake Kharkov. The Soviets have been driving and penetrating deep into our rear areas in their winter offensive, but the time has come to end this madness. We shall attack! The goal here is to smash through the advancing Soviet army with the goal being Kharkov, and stop their advance. Hopefully, we can be able to resume offensive operations in the Spring or Summer. On the retreat from Stalingrad, our army stayed mostly intact miraculously.

THE ATTACK HAS BEGUN!

0800 19 FEB 1943

The left pincer of the attack advanced toward Mashivka sweeping aside a Soviet infantry unit. Reports are starting to come in of heavy Soviet armor concentrations east of Mashivka and south of Krasnograd along the Pereshchpnye/Krasnograd rail line.

Centre group smashed entire Soviet infantry regiment and anti-tank company on the advance to Krasnopavlivka and to the north and west of Lozovaya.

East pincer took Soviet light armored division completely by surprise along the Izyum/Kramatorsk rail line against the Donets River and, combined with pinpoint Luftwaffe attacks, virtually ceased to exist. One Soviet unit retreating in panic and disarray across the frozen Donets towards the southeast of Izyum.

1400 18 FEB 1943

Just we suspected, the Soviets very ably attacked south down the Lozovaya road with their heavy armor with the obvious intent of driving a wedge between our left pincer and center forces. The Soviets were particularly interested in the T34s that we have captured from them, and they went right after those units! Unfortunately, our T34 unit was ambushed from the hills immediately to the left of the Lozovaya road, and the Soviets succeeded in recapturing and/or destroying most if not all tanks in the unit. No matter, as they were merely a bonus to us anyhow as we have more in reserve. The sky is becoming increasingly cloudy and the weather report suggests that snow is on the way, so we should be able to launch a few airstrikes before planes are grounded.

In the center, our advance units outside of Krasnopavlika report Soviet planes on the horizon. A renegade enemy SU76 unit attempting to attack our flank from the Lozovaya road ran into one of our Wuhframen units, and caused moderate damage! General Hoth recently phoned HQ insisting that this Soviet penetration be erased. General Hausser, in charge of the center group, and von Mackensen in charge of the left pincer, will combine at the Lozovaya road.

On the eastern wing, little has changed. A Soviet probing attack across the frozen Donets with American Shermans has been quickly repulsed with few losses on either side. Some Stukas and 110s ran into some light flak near the Severodonetsk bridge, but overall there has been little action for a few hours.

Here is the situation as of 1400 after Soviet attack, once again looking west to east:
