How to use Panzer Corps editor for multiplayer

Post by Gwaylare »

Panzer Corps editor is a great tool to get some information about maps. Information in here is in some cases not visible within the game, in other cases you can access information within the game, but here you have a quite good overview.

Some points first:
1) Using the editor is really easy, may be it is complicated to build a map with it. I never tried something like this. So just try it.

2) Whenever the editor ask you to save the file, click No No No. It is very common to click somewhere onto the map and change a detail. In this case the code is different to the server and it will be shown when you choose to accept a game. If you saved a map by accident and you do not have a backup, just delete it and reinstall the game from steam or anywhere else.

Most usefull information are found at Edit/Scenario Params...

First Tab is Global Parameters:

The only usefull information here is the chance of each type of weather. Clear = 100 - Clouds + Rain + Snow + Sandstorm. Like we see in here weather should not trouble any offensive in Kursk.

Some maps have a high chance of rain or snow. This will effect aircraft a lot. In a winter map with a high chance of snow there is a reliable chance of frozen rivers and it might be good idea to wait with an offensive for bad weather.

The weather forecast has an accuracy of 80%. So if there is snow as a forecast, you have chance of 80% to have snow and 20% having no snow?
No that is wrong, it depends on the regular probability of snow. If is 10%, the chance is 80% + 20% * 10% = 82%. With a 50% probability of snow we have 80% + 20% * 50% = 90%.

Those figures are not very important, but it does help to get a picture about a general weather situation for the map.

Second Page is Sides:

There we have initial prestige for both sides together with the prestige per turn. This gives a very important picture about prestige management within the map. Which side is strong at the beginning and which side may have the longer breath over a couple of turns. This information is quite critical for a map. It is available in game, but here you have all together.

Core Slots are very important to see if you are able to recruit units or not. If you cannot recruit it is quite important to get a picture how much units you have to loose till you are able to recruit the first unit.

Together with the information you get with Tools/Show Statistic you will get an easy view on how many units are on each side:

[AXIS]
Total units: 47 (cost=16826)
Core units: 29 (cost=11763)
Aux units: 18 (cost=5063)

[ALLIES]
Total units: 81 (cost=18392)
Core units: 81 (cost=18392)
Aux units: 0 (cost=0)

Primary objectives: 6 (axis=0, allied=6)
Secondary objectives: 0 (axis=0, allied=0)

So here we see that allies have to loose 12 units untill you are able to recruit the first unit. Keep an eye on your losses not to miss the first turn you are able to recruit. In some cases disbanding one or two units may speed that up one turn.

In addition to that within the statistics you have the number of secondary objectives. In the map they are marked in red and they are almost irrelevant in a multiplayer game.

Starting exp is not really important as well as the next pages Nations and Transports.

Victory conditions:

If victory conditions are straight forward this is not required. But in many cases this is more specific than in game. Relevant is just the bottom table. Important is the information, if the victory condition is checked at end of each turn or just in the last turn. So in Kursk Axis is able to end the game earlier by holding 6 primaries. Allies are able to win before the last turn by eliminating all axis troups, ha ha. Otherwise the can win by holding at least one objective till the last turn [-1,-1].
If you are not really sure about the victory condition or if the game end before the last turn, check the editor.

Last but not least Scripts:

So here we do have any Scripts triggered by any condition within the game. Most maps do not have triggers, Kursk for example does have a script.
Those scripts are designed for single player not for multiplayer games. So if something strange happens in a map, just check the editor.

If you are playing a single player campaign, do not. I think it is more fun, if you do not exactly know about a trigger, may be if you like to play on Manstein level :)

Sorry for do not posting this earlier. I have used this information since 2011 and I thought this should be much more common and not a hidden feature of Panzer Corps.

I thank you for this information and besides the scripts page which is the most important, I found the weather section to be very helpful. The total unit cost section combined with the core slots to be very useful as when you are over your core slots in the begging its hard to figure out when you will be able to buy units again.
