Oh much progress and now today I have some time to post an update.
Decisive Victory in mission 4 Strachwitz Offensive
and I am in the middle of Poltava, and man am I glad I did not buy additional AA units as I am being inundated with more than enough AA units then I will ever use or need.

I updated all 5 of my SE tanks to Tiger 2's and man did that take a bite on my prestige, but I still have over 40k so I will be happy if I make it to 45 with 30k.

We shall see.

I was able to post an update on my day to day playthrough today as well.
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 45&t=65111

I also have some exciting news about Multiplayer that I am hoping to drop later today to my fellow multiplayers.

love this game!

glad to read that you got a DV on Strachwitz offensive, i was a bit worried that you get a MV which means no Potlava mission thus missing all these AAs

I did finish the Strachwitz Offensive with a Decisive Victory.

They are not kidding in their briefing.
Stick to the center.
There is no way anyone has ever destroyed all the enemy equipment and taken every flag on that map, I don't care what level you are playing at.

Now I have started Poltava and since I am doing a blind playthrough I am not pleased with how I choose to set up my troops and I am scrambling to try and maneuver my units to back up the center as I believe my center is about to collapse as my units are almost out of ammo on Day 3 and no end to the assault in sight.

I love the challenge of this game.

I am playing mostly mp right now and it will probably be 2 to 3 weeks before I finish this mission, but I will keep you updated as I go along.

A weekend passed and I am more than halfway through the latest scenario.

I used their assault against them and bled them dry and have gone through the center and the 2 flanks.

I am pressing them everywhere but they just moved in a ton of heavy equipment that will need to be destroyed so I can take the necessary objectives.

I have not lost any units, yet, but I have had some serious damage done to some of my artillery and an unescorted strat bomber that got attacked.

Don't assume you own the skies ever, ever.

Indeed. I suspect the AI will spawn air units or that they appear as a part of scripted events. Strat bombers are very vulnerable to air attacks. They also get chipped away at by 85 mm AA units (range of 3) and those annoying T-90's. I don't use them very often this late in the campaign. My fighters are usually busy knocking down Yaks & Il-2's & there usually aren't any available for escort duty. Save for Rudel that is. It's worth guarding him with a high attack hero FW190 to prevent as much damage as possible. He's the one unit I regularly max out with overstrength. I refer to him as the tank eraser.

Uber Rudel may be my only hope for highest German medal which I am estimating will come at 3400 kills.

Haven't updated in a while.

I am 2/3 done with Vilna.

I have made some serious mistakes which cost me some good units, that will come out in my full report here:
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 45&t=65111

Probably in a month or 2 ;)

I am making more time to type up reports but not quite up to date yet.

I am learning that King Tigers are about the only way to roll.

I need to start the GC again. =/

But then we'd have to fight in Stalingrad again and that was torture.

I am finding the current losses more torturous.

Only lost a couple of units in the Stalingrad scenarios.

A vicious battle I just finished was the last of 44 East. I think it is Budapest 44.

Even with Tiger 2's if you get lots of snow turns you lose the initiative to hit Russian units without them firing back. The large volume of Russian armour cannot be walled off and waited out because they try and flank you, so you are forced to attack them in the snow. Even 5 star, 15 strength Tiger 2's attacking 12-13 strength T-34's WILL get a return shot and they usually get one or 2 in return for being smashed. They actually got one of the ATG's (stupid ice patch hexes the infantry can get you on) and Panthers to 6 and 2 strength respectively. Their IS-2's attacked my 12 strength, 3 star Jagdtiger and knocked off 4 while losing NONE. With snow on their side, they can actually bleed your best units to normal strenth.

Beware

This weekend I finished the 44 campaign.

I took a break from multiplayer so I could bust through the single player campaign, and it paid off. (Sorry guys)

The Warsaw Uprising was a bit more relaxing but still tough enough to make it a challenge.

Budapest had me worried the way rayrard had talked about it.
But I was blessed with only 2 Snowy Days, not sure how that happened but I am glad it did.

I thought I was going to end up with a minor victory when that 3rd wave came out, but once I decimated them, the enemy had literally nothing left to stop me.

I will post the day by day probably by the end of the year at the rate I am typing them up.

Onto 45 where I am finally going to do some serious upgrading of my units with weaker equipment since I have over 40k in prestige.

Now is the time to use it or leave it on the table.

Thanks for the advice and interest in this thread. ;)

Wow, only 2 snow days? That helps a lot as your Rudel and air units can smash Russians while your heavy units can one-shot Russians without them firing back.

Did you get a really early thaw too? That helps as they cannot cross rivers readily and are bottlenecked in the north.

My battle was 7-8 days of snow and the river thaw didn't happen until the third wave hit.

No the thaw still didn't happen until right before the 3rd wave, but once you destroy that 3rd wave it really is smooth sailing.

Thank God as I only had like 2 days left to rush forward and take the poorly guarded objectives.

I have some bad news. :(

My daughter got on my computer and uploaded some kind of something that horsed everything up so I have lost all my saved game stuff.              :( :( :( :(

I absolutely need to get one of those flash drive thingys and save the game to them at least once a week or something.

I can't believe it is all gone again.

This is the second time, you think I would learn.

Damn that sucks. To make you feel better I am at Budapest 1945 (3 more to the end) and I have Rudel at over 3800 kills (like 20 losses) and no German highest medal. He gets ignored by Russian fighters since his defense is so high so he rarely takes losses. Hitting IS-2's and T34/85's is now costing him 1 or 2 a scenario now from ground fire.

Praise The Lord.

I was able to save my game.

Before we had to reboot the computer I transferred everything that was on my old computer, it was not a virus just a glitch with Windows 10, over to an external hide drive and then transferred them over to my newly downloaded games.

It took some doing but at least I am back in business baby.

3800 kills for Uber Rudel and no ultimate medal? How else were you supposed to get the ultimate medal except with Uber Rudel.

Did you get anything at 3400 kills, because according to my calculations that would be the next medal awarded?
I guess we can only hope it awards at 4000

I finished the grand Campaign and Rudel had over 4400 kills and no third medal. Thankfully I had the medal from the vanilla campaign somehow so it doesn't matter. No unit got the third one.

I also didn't get the steam achievement for Grand Campiagner despite all the conditions being met and no cheats used.

Bummer :(

Just out of curiosity what was the highest medal awarded in the vanilla campaign?
