Things in semifinal between Glenghiscan and I are still at the opening stages.
Too early to see through the fog of war...

Re: 2nd FGH'40 Tournament
Brummbar's and my games have ended. One draw, One German victory!
Alas, another foe has fallen to the dreaded "truck attack". Well, a draw, at least.
In our defense, the trucks were at least carrying troops. Well, some of them.

Ugghh...rotten trucks! No offence to jcb989, he played it smart...but it's just so frustrating to see such a good game go out cheesy like that.
Here is the results from my German side (2-2)

Re: 2nd FGH'40 Tournament
Again, hats off to you jcb989. You played it well within the framework here...it just didn't feel right. I managed to hold off your forces until the very last turn when smoke and trucks snatched the victory.
My point being is maybe we should be looking at scoring these in a different manner?
I did a quick estimate of what the situation would be like if we simply scored 1 point for each unit lost (including trucks) and 3 points for each flag held at the end. The results were interesting and I think we would have a much more accurate assessment of players.
For example, in our latest games, jcb989 would've still won by a score of 85 to 84. And while I probably would've been just as sour (LOL!) at least it would've been more reflective of the game that was actually played.
I think this would also too give us a more precise ranking establishment then what it currently is...if we so desired.
Anyway, my two cents. Great games with jcb989 (as usual!) and congrats to him.

Quick correction on the results as posted on page 1, the score should be 5-3 for jcb989 (for posterities sake)

Re: 2nd FGH'40 Tournament
That's a great idea! I had some similar thoughts but decided to make things simple and just reward points for flags, then number of kills would be the deciders. Being rewarded for keeping your losses to a minimum while doing as much damage to your opponent would also be a step toward realism. But I think the flags still should be the main focus and the score for killing enemy units the decider. In a tournament like this the games are more like sport matches.Brummbar44 wrote:My point being is maybe we should be looking at scoring these in a different manner?

I will for sure have this in mind for future tournaments. Speaking of future tournaments, what's the chances you will organise a WWI tournament...

Re: 2nd FGH'40 Tournament
My match with jcb989 showed me the vulnerability of that system though. While a crafty effort on his part...he simply sat back and probed until the very last turn then fired off some smoke and dashed in for the win. I eliminate 39 of his units to my loss of 22...but it turned out to be a draw?! While objectives were certainly valuable in war, the main goal is the defeat of enemy forces in the field. Something to think about...again, I think it would make for a more accurate assessment of player skill as well.cavehobbit wrote:But I think the flags still should be the main focus and the score for killing enemy units the decider. I had a bit of a setback trying to introduce Cavalry (thanks to Amaris for his amazing efforts there) but just can't get them to work for some reason. I do have two scenarios now and am working on a third. I'm also thinking of revisiting the original Tim1966 scenarios for inclusion but they need some tweaking (no objective flags etc...). Will try to get it operational perhaps to a follow up on this one.cavehobbit wrote:Speaking of future tournaments, what's the chances you will organise a WWI tournament...
