Lots of clever little tricks you can play with this one. I've identified at least six and spotted a seventh earlier this week.

For example, you can seriously slow up the Allied advance by a line of tank traps near the bunkers. I had initially trapped the beach exits but that's now a waste of time since the Allies usually just march on up the middle.

Kudos to whoever thought Engineers should NOT have unlimited ability to do busy work - otherwise they'd turn into some kind of Super Soldier. They can fight! They can build! They can blow up forests! They can drain swamps! Tactically, this means the potential to do an Ardennes...

The problem is though, that although I can think up nasty little surprises (such as relocating the coastal guns WAY forward) I never seem to take maximum advantage of them!

I assume you mean Tindall John? Not GL88 Jon? Because you look pretty much odds on favourite to clean up in the game we're playing, lol...

I did mean John not Jon, lol, I was careful. Are you sure? I think I will lose as Allies against you, too. I intend to win as germans though against you, as you are taking too long to reach your staging areas to launch your offensive. I am probably available to start another pair with Colin or Al.

Haha figures!... But are you sure you didn't mean that the other way round, Justin?

I reckon I can crack you as Germans... I still have 14 turns, 4/5th of my infantry, most tanks, 3 destroyers, 1 of which can reach just beyond your rear bunkers...

Btw, the lads asked me to thank you for your lovely wall of tank traps... They say that's real generous of you, they don't enjoy that level of kindness any more, not since ummm, 1940 I guess... Zap a couple of scouts, and it's going to be a perfect pathway for your average grunt to slink from seafront to bunkers, without ever being in full view... Once the destroyer and the arty have done their work of course... They didn't bring enough tank traps of their own, you see... so they're very grateful and insisted that I tell you so, lol ;-)

But as Allies, I thought you had me... Perhaps I should reassess...? You're just luring me in... Right...? 8)

Engineer firebugs? Am I right in suspecting that the ever-versatile Engineers can also set fire to (ie clear) an adjacent bed of reeds?

These dudes are more versatile than MacGyver!

Same square, not adjacent... Corn or dune grass... Total war... Spare your enemy no comfort, lol...

Reflecting on this a couple of weeks ago, I believe the 'burn' function belongs with flamethrowers, not with engineers, and will be moved there with the next Tourney upgrade...

However, both sides engineers may enjoy it for now! ;-)

Poor GL, drawing a decent pilot on the final turn. The rest fly while drunk it seems.

Ice cream for Germany. Hooray. And I will definitely enjoy this too fleeting moment of more wins than losses.

Haha... Didn't think you'd seen the playback of that last turn? Finally decided to borrow one of Al's pilots (they never miss!)... Although yours that took out three DDs on turn 1 was pretty clever too, sigh...

Soooo close! There's an engineer in a bunker immediately adjacent to your flag, with no enemy in sight... And a scout 2 squares from a -70 morale VG on your other flag... But no more turns for either...

Great game!! I really like the flexibility on this map... You taught me plenty of sneaky tricks to try out on Justin... :D

I had a unit two houses down that I'd been moving along the far edge but if you'd managed the flag I don't think I could have fired and moved with enough AP left to retake it.

I always watch the final playback. For the rare Objective Completed.

Gents - I'm sitting this one out as I will be "busy" for the next 4 weeks some of which will be out of mobile :( coverage but I'm playing on in other areas :) .

I wish I'd read more of this thread thoroughly as the mighty "snake" Tindall  is introducing me to the map.

And I mean introducing - to all his little tricks!

I'm a bit jealous now that I'm not receiving your teaching - good luck all. :D

Roger, you really should join. If not this one then the next. GL would probably be fine with it I'm sure, except for the fact that you're friends with John.

Game Ended: arcticpost (Germans) vs johntindall (Allies) - Allies win

This was the first OysterFarm game for both of us. Consequently plenty of learnings for both sides.

Colin put up a massive fight and I know it'll get even tougher from here. :(

Incidentally, as to Reform's undeserved nickname for me, I have to correct him. In Dwarven, I'm told that "Tindall" means smart, handsome and wealthy. Such a pity that apparently John means"not very"...

Justin's Fw190 proves immune to M16AA fire once again... and kills the (supposedly) anti-aircraft truck with a single bomb...

Meanwhile a supposedly creme de la creme Royal Marine creeps along a beach, never leaving the cover of tank traps, in hunt mode... sneaking up on an MG42 in a bunker... but is forced to surrender by a single response fire to its movement... The silly buggers never even got to open fire...

There are times when I'm convinced that 'random bias' has determined that I should stick to designing scenarios rather than playing the darned things, lol...

Nice one, Jcb!
