At Roll Call this year there will be one FoG:Renaissance period, which following discussion elsewhere on the forum will be in 15mm

The theme is being worked on by the mystical elves of the BHGS, and will be published soon. You've probably got an army that fits it anyway, so no need to worry.

Yt will be 800 points, 6x4 table, Games to be played using the latest Slitherine amendments.

Games will be 3 hours 20 mins plus a 1-10 min(s) variable

Saturday 0900-1230, 1330-1700
Sunday 0900-1230, 1330-1700

List Deadline: 14th April 2019

Online booking live now at : http://www.bhgs.org.uk/field-of-glory-r ... -call.html

Might this not clash with the Oxford ECW round? The latter is usually the last Sunday in April.

Hopefully Oxford will have an opportunity to schedule the ECW round on a different date.

Between avoiding Easter, staying in the school holidays (as we run in a school) and keeping away from Salute! the number of viable weekend in April for Roll Call is somewhat limited - it was basically this one or nothing.

I quite understand, just wanted to make sure everyone was aware whilst it was still possible to do something about it.

Noting that FoGR is listed as 15mm for Roll Call next year, Dene & I at Burton who are both building up more 25mm armies are particularly disappointed about this.

I have contacted the 'usual suspects' and have ascertained that Ben, Bob, Lynette, Simon LRM, and this Keith are entering and would happily play 15mm or 25mm, especially if the later was open. So that gives 7 who would play 25mm to my knowledge. At a recent Burton club night Dene & I talked to Steve Holt who would also go "Big Toys" if the organisers really needed 8 players.

So, given the dilution of players to MeG & possibly FK&P, I suggest that they will not get more entries to FoGR simply by switching to 15mm.

For some years Roll Call has held up the 'Big Toys' banner. So I am appealing to Tim Porter & the organisers to not let it drop and to change FoGR back to 25mm and to keep the theme open.

Any thoughts in support or objections please.

Ray

After in depth secret negotiations at the highest levels, Campaign will be running a 25mm open event.

This means that you can get to do both 25mm and 15mm FoGR wargaming in the beautiful Greater Milton Keynes area, all within the space of a few weeks !

Folks

Any more for Roll Call please - we're creeping slowly and step by step towards a sellouot in the other periods, and based on previous history I al;ways expect to see a bit of a flurry of bookings around Warfare, so it would be good to get to at least 6 before everyone goes to Reading..,.

Roll Call signups to date:

dene green Burton
Keith Spedding October
Simon LeRay-Meyer Central London

We normally see something of a mini-rush post Warfare, so with a finite amount of space left at the venue those planning on attending may wish to book sooner rather than later.

I have bought my ticket.
At attack! last year I was asked by the players to have a TYW theme for this year. With Roll Call now TWYish will with have to change the Theme for Attack!

Thanks Bob. One more space left, or if push comes to shove we can find someone to swap across from another period to make the 6 so Thunderbirds Are Go on this one!

I am becoming very concerned about what is happening regarding FOG R at Roll Call. It was changed to 15mm from 25mm because someone did not have a 25mm army and felt more players will take part if it was 15mm. Yet all the booked players would have played 25mm and some would have preferred 25mm. The person calling for a change to 15mm from 25mm has not booked and in any case there is only 6 places available in total. It could end up with players who came last year not being able to get a place.

In view of a previous misunderstanding with another poster on here (now resolved, thankfully), can I just make it clear that I had nothing to do with any of the above.

Hi Bob

I think you may be confusing two threads here. Roll Call was announced as a 15mm event this year, not 'changed' as such.

The call to go with 15mm wasn't made on the basis of one persons post on this forum either - it was made on the basis of reviewing attendance over the last 2-3 editions of Roll Call and other events, all of which which suggested we could struggle with numbers this year.

To give you some context, if you look at the last 3 editions numbers are as follows:
2016 - 20 players (of which 13 are no longer actively playing FoGR)
2017 - 8 players (of which 2 are no longer playing)
2018 - 6 players

As such, we wanted to try something different to see if it would help to cast the net as widely as possible. With a pool on only half a dozen playing 25mm at Roll Call in recent years, with the idea that more people have 15mm armies than 25mm, and with Warfare pulling in a decent number for 15mm it therefore seemed sensible to give 15mm a go this time.

The players I personally discussed this with have all been happy to go with 15mm for Roll Call, and indeed one of the earlier posts in the thread also lists a numbers of players who have said they are happy to play either 15mm or 25mm. Some of the comments I've had also commented positively on the theme, as there aren't now all that many themed 15mm events in the calendar.

We've also kept open as many places for FoGR as we could at Roll Call, and kept them open for as long as possible. There are only 6 places still open, and of these 5 are for the 1-day Saga event (which uses the same tables as the sold-out 10-person TTS! competition on the other day of the weekend, so we can't allocate them to another theme). The only other slot still being held open at Roll Call is so we can accommodate a 6th person in FoGR, so after that goes we will then be at full capacity for the whole venue. 148 non-FoGR players have already committed to their events, and we have waiting lists for some of them already - even whilst holding open slots for FoGR. Doing so when other events are already oversubscribed is I believe a clear demonstration of the ongoing commitment to support FoGR.

Clearly now we do know who's signed up if those 5 people do want to change to 25mm that's not an issue and it's easy to do so - however as we've also held discussions with the MKWS guys and agreed that 25mm will be on offer at Campaign (making sure that anyone who's collecting or painting a new 25mm army can scratch their 25mm itch anyway next spring within the MK postcode area only a couple of weeks after Roll Call) that would now mean having two 25mm events in quick succession - which I'm not sure everyone would be happy with either?

Taking Tim's point about 25mm FoGR now being on offer at Campaign I did not pursue my lobbying for 25mm at Roll Call. Indeed everyone would not have been happy with either. I have just taken the 6th (last -TBA?) ticket. Ray
