Which FOG-R Competition?

Post by DavidT »

There are three of us considering coming across to the mainland from Northern Ireland for a FOG-R competition in 2018.
It would need to be 15mm, preferably a 2 day event, with a trade show attached - if we're going to come all that way, we want to buy some new toys.
We have a wide variety of available armies, so a theme should not be a problem, unless it is something unusual.
It would also need to be within reasonable distance of an airport so that we can get public transport or a taxi there.
What would people recommend.
Thanks
David

Warfare in Reading in November springs to mind.

Big trade show and close to London (and therefore its airports) on the rail network - also as there are lots of comps going at the show it is always possible that you could cadge a lift with somebody instead of public transport.

Three other options:-

1. The Challenge run at UK Games Expo on 2nd and 3rd June very close to Birmingham airport. Not a normal trade show but masses of content
2. Britcon run at Manchester University between 10th- 12th August - 6 games over Friday Evening, Saturday (3 games) and Sunday with cheap on site student accommodation. One of the biggest games events with an OK trade selection
3. Derby Worlds in errr Leicester at the beginning of October! Renaissance competition with teams of 3! Great trade show but had issues in 2017 after a move from Castle Donington right next to East Midlands airport with loads of accommodation!! If it was still at CD this would be the default option!

Outside options would be
* Campaign at Milton Keynes - interesting event again in teams of 3 expected to be over the weekend of 12th and 13th May. Nice competition but again a limited trade offering
* Derby Delights - a new competition with FoGR over 2 days on 19th and 20th May - as far as I'm aware there will be no trade!

I like Warfare!

Hope that helps!

Thanks for this.
There appear to be pros and cons.
We'll have to discuss it.
