Doubles 2017?
The BHGS are planning on running another Doubles event for this year - Battlefield Hobbies again, 23/24 September.
As we seem to be coasting on a wave of renewed enthusiasm at the moment, with Derby already viable before launch, and the singles also getting a boost what are peoples thoughts on Doubles?

Re: Doubles 2017?
1) As well as being a week before Derby, this is also
2) a month earlier than the BHGS Doubles in previous years; and,
3) the Sunday clashes with our Italian Wars Southern League round - to which several tournament "notables" from this forum have already committed (as well as preventing anyone from Wessex Wargames Society attending, too, obviously).
{So that would be a (reluctant) "No" from me - and at this particular moment in time, I appear to be unanimous!]

Re: Doubles 2017?
Depends on whether it's MeG at the same time, and how many brownie points I have, but I would not if it's the weekend before Derby/Lutterworth

Re: Doubles 2017?
This would actually be 2 weeks before Derby (7/8 October) if that helps.

Aaaah - the clash with the Southern League is something we'd missed. Sorry!
That I suspect means its almost certainly a step too far then.

Not to worry - why is it a month earlier this year? It has been late October for at least the past three years.

Re: Doubles 2017?
Its a combination of availability of the venue, and the desire to avoid a FoGAM event that runs in the October dateline and which usually attracts 20+ players - its clashed with that event for the last few years.RonanTheLibrarian wrote:Not to worry - why is it a month earlier this year? Take out Xmas, bank holidays, much of August, Easter, weekends either side of the 'big' events .. and there are surprisingly few 'spare' weekends left in the year, so some date clashes are unavoidable I guess

Re: Doubles 2017?
It's a shame - had it been its usual weekend at the end of October, I suspect we could have put up a good showing (although it was cancelled last year after only two teams entered).
