Put me down for a place, Bob, and I shall "raise the standard" at the Wessex club this weekend (our AGM) and see how many more flock to it.

Keith and Paul,

I have added you to my list.

Sorry for the delay but I have been recovering from an operation on my spine that I had just before Christmas.

Love Oxford and enjoy the format but sadly it is my Wife's birthday and while a weekend away in the Cotswolds would appeal to her...

Well if your wife loves the Cotswold she also like the exhibition the Ashmolean will have on at that time: -
"Degas to Picasso
Creating Modernism in France
One of the most fascinating stories in the history of art, the rise of Modernism in France will be the focus of our spring 2017 exhibition. In works by Manet, Pissarro, Cezanne, Degas, Picasso and many others, the exhibition will explore the artists who created Modernism and how they did it."

Bob

Thank you for the suggestion. The only way we are going to that exhibition is with a box of matches to set fire to the pictures... While that will be a service to art it don't help me get to play toy soldiers...

We are considering using some if not all the proposed updates to the FOG R Rules at the Oxford Round. Tom and Ben are playtesting them over the next couple of weeks to see their impact on ECW.

Once we have done that we will publish the special rules for the Oxford Round.

OK here is the full details, although may be subject to change as specified below

Southern League FOG R Oxford Round 2017
“The Great Rebellion”
Date: - Sunday 30th April 2017
Venue: - Near the King’s Capital during the Civil War - Wolvercote Village Hall, Wolvercote Green, Oxford, Oxon, OX2 8BD

Period: The Great Rebellion 1642–1651: - Early Caroline English, Scots Covenanter, Scots Royalist, Confederate Irish, Early ECW Royalist, ECW Parliamentarian, Later ECW Royalist, New Model Army.

Format: - Three x 2 hours 30 minute games on pre-set terrain.

Set-up Rules: - There will be the following modifications to the normal set-up rules –
• light troops will deploy up to 21" and battle troops 16" in from the owning players the base line.
• light and medium artillery can deploy up to 18" in from the base line.
• Unlimbered heavy artillery would still only be able to deploy at 15".
• Each player can before sides are chosen, elect to move one item of the pre-set terrain, dice to see who has first choice, the second player may not choose the same item as the first player. After selecting which item of terrain they want to move the player rolls a D6 and can move the terrain as follows: -
1 = up to 3”
2 and 3 = up to 6”
4 = up to 9”
5 = up to 12” or pivot
6 = remove the terrain

Special Rules: - We have decided to play test the proposed changes to FOG R that are being discussed on the Slithering Forum. To clarify what changes are being made a special note has been made that can be obtained from the organisers Tom Elsworth or Ben Jones. As a quick guide the following will be used (subject to change until the 31st March when we will solidify exactly what we are going with):-

• Artillery shooting at mounted will hit on a 5+
• Artillery can no longer shoot through friendly LF
• Captured artillery is removed in the JAP phase.
• Dragoons - Any move that starts, ends or goes within 6MU of enemy is as MF for movement. This includes evade moves. Can still do a fall back on a CMT pass.
• Commanded shot will be a marker
o Has one shot at up to 6” at Musket POA
o Offset one – POA at impact and Melee, if = then adds one dice instead
o BG moves as MF but marches as Mtd (ie 3 moves)
o Break off is 4MU as foot.
o Removed if unit Routs, pursues or moves faster than MF speed.
• Light artillery - can move in a divisional move with foot troops but still only at 2MU’s.
• Better Armour is no longer a POA, instead the reroll of the base with the lesser armour is reduced. Ie. Superior, would have no reroll, Poor would have a 5-6 reroll.
• the new points values, at the moment point Commanded shot at the same price as Regimental Guns these can be found at http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 50&t=75480

• Autobreak – numbers found here http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 3&start=40

Points: 800 points

The games will be played using the following starting times: -
1st Round 9.00am to 11.30am
15 minute break
2nd Round 11.45am to 2.15pm
15 minute break
3rd Round 2.30pm to 5.00pm

The local BP garage near the large roundabout above Wolvercote has a M&S has a shop so you can get sandwiches there. I hope this doesn't seem pedantic, but the games are stated to be 2h 40m each in the pre-amble, but only listed as 2h 30m each in the timetable.

The timetable and the game length do not match! The timetable is for 2'30'' not 2'40'' as described in the format statement. Just saying
That pedant Stead :?

Just seen Ronan's comment which shows I am a slow typist

I think the statement about the cost of Commanded Shot Markers is a little confusing. The costs are the same as Regimental Guns for a marker for Horse but for Determined Horse or Cavaliers they about 50% more (the details are in the chart).
I have started making some laminated reference charts for Autobreak points if people think that would be useful. How many tables will we have? I would aim to provide one per table if people want them.
