Roll Call 2017

Post by madaxeman »

Roll Call 2017 will take place at our usual venue in Cranfield over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017.

This year we will be offering 11 different competitions including FOUR "Big Boys Toys" Ancients and Renaissance "big battle" events in DBMM, FoGAM, FoGR and L'Art de la Guerre. We will also be offering Mortem et Gloriam at Roll Call for the first time ever.

Our venue for Roll Call is the same, meaning that we are again likely to sell out for this year's event.

Full details and an online booking form for Roll Call 2017 is now available on the BHGS website http://www.bhgs.org.uk/roll-call.html

We are considering two possible themes - one mainstream the other a bit more "Off the Wall"!!

Option 1 – Elephants! Asia and NE Africa.
Armies and any Allied Contingents may be chosen from lists in Colonies and Conquest dated 1600-1698 only.
Armies that can have 6 or more bases of Elephants must have at least 6.
Other armies must have at least 3 BGs of Average Mounted battle troops or all those permitted by their list. Options that reduce mounted troops below this level (e.g. Murakami Kaizoku Japanese) are not permitted.
Maori/Pacific Island and Hawaiian armies are excluded. Colonial Portugese or Dutch may be included as Allied contingents only.
Any army must have at least 6 bases of foot battle troops per base of Medium or Heavy Artillery. Artillery may not be deployed such that it could shoot into either of the outer 12MU sections of the table.

Option 2 – Europe during the French Wars of Religion.
Armies and any Allied Contingents may be chosen from lists in Trade and Treachery or Clash of Empires dated 1559-1598 only.
No army may have more bases of Elite or Superior Battle Troops than it has Average or Poor Battle Troops for both Foot and Mounted.
Any army must have at least 6 bases of foot battle troops per base of Medium or Heavy Artillery. Artillery may not be deployed such that it could shoot into either of the outer 12MU sections of the table.

Any thoughts?

On option 1, is it Elephants and cavalry, or elephants or cavalry for the minima?

On Option 1, as far as I can see, any army that can have elephants, can have at least 6, so that debate should not come up!

1) Muslim Indian 2-6
2) Hindu Indian 4-14 (Rajputs limited to 6)
3) Indonesian 0-6
4) Thai etc 4-12
5) Vietnamese 2-6
6) Mughal 0-6

Do you have a specific issue in mind?

Personally I think it is clear what Will is asking.

If you can take 6 elephants in your army list do you have to take any average mounted battle troops?

If your army does not allow you take elephants you have to take 3 BG's of average mounted Battle troop BG's.

Not to fulfill the requirements of the theme. However, your list would need to be legal, so if it list has compulsory average mounted battle troops (e.g. Muslim Indian) they would be required.

In the absence of feedback either for or against either of the suggested themes, we have decided that for 2017 we will "Go with the Exotic"! Therefore we have selected Option 1 and thus for the 15mm period, the theme will be:-

Elephants!

All lists must otherwise be legal.

As in previous years the 25mm period will be Open.

Time to get painting!

Roll Call 2017 is coming ....

http://www.bhgs.org.uk/roll-call.html

April 8th & 9, 2017
The 2017 event will feature a huge range of historical competitions across all of these periods and rulesets:
Bolt Action
FoG:AM 15mm
FoG:AM 25mm
FoG:R 15mm
FoG:R 25mm
DBMM 15mm
DBMM 25mm
L'Art de la Guerre 15mm
L'Art de la Guerre 25mm
Mortem et Gloriam 15mm
SAGA
For full details on the rules and lists being used in all of these periods please visit the Roll Call 2017 web page on the BHGS website http://www.bhgs.org.uk/roll-call.html

As usual, the venue capacity is 144 players and with around 60 players signed up as of today we fully expect to be operating a waiting list again in 2017. Our aim is to try to make sure that at least 6 places are kept open in all periods, but in the past some events have failed to make these numbers and been withdrawn so if you and your clubmates can please try to book early that will help us juggle numbers and ensure that your preferred period or rules system does take place.

We're also making Roll Call the "official" 2017 BHGS Big Boys Toys event of the year, with 25mm competitions in DBMM, FoG:AM, FoG:R and L'Art de la Guerre so, if you do fancy getting the big toys out next April please support these spectacular periods at Roll Call 2017.

For further details please visit the Roll Call pages on the BHGS website - and if you think that you may already have booked and forgotten (yes, this does happen. Every year...) we've even published a current list of runners and riders (pre-Warfare) so you can check online who's already going - and if one of them is you!

As usual, juniors (Under 18) will get discounted entry by using the code BHGSUNDER18 when booking into any period.

We hope to see you at Roll Call 2017!

We're at 89 players as of this morning. Currently we have 5 periods which have yet to make the minimum threshold of 6, so working on the assumption that we hold open 6 places for each of these 5 periods that leaves just less than 40 places up for grabs across all other periods.

Currently signed up FoGR players are:

2016-11-02 Dene Green 25mm FoG:R (Open) Burton
2016-11-08 Stephen Stead 25mm FoG:R (Open) Reigate
2016-11-21 Robert Medcraft 25mm FoG:R (Open) Oxford
2016-11-21 Keith Spedding 25mm FoG:R (Open) October
2016-11-26 Nicholas Gaukroger 25mm FoG:R (Open) Reigate

2016-12-03 Keith Spedding 15mm FoG Renaissance

Well he is 3rd in the Rankings - maybe he's worked out that if he wins both scales at Roll Call which are each worth 120 Ranking points, he can jump Alasdair back into 1st spot!!!

More realistically, I guess he has entered for both him and Ray!
