Warfare 2016 - 19/20 November - theme?
I realise this might be a bit early, but is anyone aware of the theme for this year's FoG:R competition?
If there's an opportunity to influence anyone, my vote would be for Italian Wars, 1500-1550 (with no muskets).

As there's been a hold up getting this loaded to the Warfare site, Tim has asked me to post it here. You are also advised to enter as soon as possible as there is a lot of pressure on places.
Period: From 1660 (Restoration of Charles II) to 1697 (end of the War of the League of Augsburg)
Armies permitted: any (worldwide) within those dates.
Special restrictions:
Armies must include at least 16 bases of mounted battle troops, or all those permitted by their list. No more than half of all mounted battle troops can be Superior or Elite. Armies with insufficient Superior mounted battle troops in their army list to achieve this limit can upgrade whichever type of Average mounted troops in their list is most expensive in points to Superior to achieve the above limit.
No more than half of all foot battle troops can be Superior or Elite.
The army must have at least 6 bases of foot battle troops per heavy or medium artillery base.

Ohhh, what to take!
Re: Warfare 2016 - 19/20 November - theme?
Kevin, can I just clarify what this means as it currently does not make that much sense.

This seems to say you must upgrade 50% of your mounted to superior and that you may not have more than 50% superior in the same breath.

Re: Warfare 2016 - 19/20 November - theme?
I stole this from Richard's theme for Usk this year.
What it means is:
1) No more than half of your mounted Battle Troops may be superior or Elite.
2) If your list does not contain enough Superior/Elite mounted Battle Troops to field 50% as such, you may upgrade your most expensive Average mounted Battle Troops to Superior, up to the 50% limit.
An example may make it easier:
L of A Anglo Dutch have no Superior Mounted in their list. They would therefore be able to upgrade the British/Dutch Cavalry (Ave DH, Armoured, Pi/Pi) to Superior. They could therefore have 2 BGs of Superior DH (Armoured, Pi/Pi) and 2 Average Armoured or Unarmoured (or even Poor Unarmoured) to make the 16 base minimum.
They do not have to take this option and could field all of their mounted troops as Average/Poor.

I agree that the Western armies are going to be constrained by this, but hopefully that will add to the variety and make people think about using something different. It means that you won't spend the weekend facing Later Swedes with maximum superior Salvo or Anglo Dutch with 1 BG of horse and a wall of muskets. Some of the more exotic armies have acess to cheaper mounted troops, which might make them more viable. Or you could always look at armies that don't have much mounted in them. If you did go for Monmouth, you'd only need to take 3 BGs
Re: Warfare 2016 - 19/20 November - theme?
I have managed to get 13 BG's in an Anglo-Dutch force. So what are you doing wrong Will!!!!!
Re: Warfare 2016 - 19/20 November - theme?
Maxing out on superiors, with battalion guns, plus two units of armoured superior determined horse, of course!
If I do that, you get down to 9, with three generals!

For the L of A, you could have:
3 x TC = 105
2x4 Armoured Superior DH = 168
2x4 Unamoured Average DH = 96
2x6 Guard Foot Superior 1+5+ Reg Gun = 150
2x6 Line Foot Average 1+5+ Reg Gun = 108
2x6 Swedes Average 1+5 Salvo = 84
2x3 Dragoons = 48
1x2 Med Art = 40
Total 799, 13 BGs
