Poor Tom Elsworth - he has to play 2 opponents simultaneously whilst Keith Spedding gets a bye! Don't seem fair really!Vespasian28 wrote:And the first round matches. Looking forward to seeing you all here in the New Forest

Tom is really looking forward to playing two games at once. He feels it will just be like playing at the Oxford Cub where he keeps being asked questions while he tries to play.
All he wants is to take his best score to round 2.

Oops!
Amended above. Now you know why I didn't do the list checking.
That said it gives rise to the idea of speed wargaming where, like chess, one player( of vast competence) zips around a hall of lesser mortals taking them all on.

Dene and Paddy's armies worry me. These are the Scots at the battle of Flodden Field. There is no wet under foot conditions, muddy ditch/stream at the bottom of a gentle slope and no slight incline after the ditch/stream to stand on to count uphill to them. The scots artillery will not have just been redeployed so shots over your army while you blow them away in counter battery.
I played against Dene's 25mm version at Roll call - it just walked through my army.

http://www.madaxeman.com/reports/Roll_Call_2013_2.php should help if you are worried ...
(I think this was also one of the first ever recorded army-breaks for Mr McAvis if I remember correctly...)

Re: Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
Well done, Paul. And bad luck Dave Edwards, having to use the Taramasalata/Trustafarian Spanish - we'll let you have your Ottomans back for next year!
To all who took part - and any who wanted to, but couldn't - any feedback would be useful, especially in terms of the date (sorry, we can't help with defective GPS/Tom-Toms, but will provide more explicit directions in future). For my own part, I'd like to keep Italian Wars and maybe narrow the dates a little more, but include armies from other books.

On behalf of all the Oxford Club players we would like to thank the Wessex club (especially Paul) for a great day wargaming.
It was very well organised, the venue was great once we managed to find it (SatNavs are useless - telling us it was the middle of a bridge!!!) and our opponents were very friendly.
I have already been asked for the date for next year as we want to come back.

Re: Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
Very keen Nigel but no date yet I'm afraid. Availability of the hall is one of the things we will be looking into alongside a couple of other issues. As soon as we have any confirmed details they will be posted under a fresh thread for Southampton 2017.
