Hi Tom,

still count me in!

I thought that I had confirmed at a much earlier stage. Thanks, Ray

Brilliant, that's a full set. Now to start harassing Tom for riders (we already have runners).

Or is that the other way round? :?

All,

thanks we now have 10 players confirmed:-

Richard Jeffrey Cooke
Nigel Emsen
Stephen Stead
Dave Allen
Richard Bodley Scott
Phil Jelley
Ray Boyles
Dene Greeen
Ben Jones
Tom Elsworth

I am still waiting for a couple of army lists.

I shall be on the beach in Malaga for the next week so shall have plenty of time to sort out the draw and post it provided hotel wifi works.

General idea unless anyone thinks differently is to start out with first round games by nearest dates then go where the results take us for rounds 2, 3 and 4.

Hey Nigel
Did you notice that the Swiss list ends in 1515?

I am subbing for Richard Bodley Scott, replacing his Achmaenid Persians with my Wars of the Roses Yorkists, which curiously must leave the draw unchanged, despite the millenial gulf between them.

Results Oxford event of 6/7 June

Post by tjelsworth » Sun Jun 07, 2015 5:29 pm

All, here are the results of the event at Oxford this weekend.

The event was for 25mm armies and played to FOGR rules but allowed FOGAM armies to enter using some special list conversion rules.

There were 10 contestants and 4 games were played.

Winner, Ben Jones
Second, Ray Boyles
Third equal, Dave Allen, Richard Jeffrey Cooke
Fifth equal, Stephen Stead, Dene Green
Seventh, Nigel Emsen
Eigth, Tom Elsworth
Ninth, Phil Jelley
Tenth, Peter Card

Everyone had a great time and it was agreed generally that we should do it again. The Oxford club has a date available on 17/18 October so watch out for more news.

Thanks to Tom and Ben for organising an excellent event.

I took an Early Macedonian Successor (Antigonos Gonatos) and achieved a tied 3rd place with 2 wins and 2 losses. Playing Ancient armies against Renaissance armies using FoG-R is challenging... My allied Galatian general ended up being killed in all four games. Never had that before...

Enjoyed the event very much - many thanks to the organisers and my opponents:

Game 1 v Stephen Stead (Early TYW Swede) hard fought 8-12. As it always is against Stephen - hard fought that is, I consider 8pts a result!
Game 2 v Ben Jones (TYW French civil war) 5-20 [?] I'd like to say it was down to the dice and in a way it was, but when you choose to spend points on a GC rather than another 6-pack you're entitled to better dice ;)
Game 3 v Nigel's Swiss 20-5 [?] This really was the dice - while one keil got stuck on average Horse (!) the other two went straight through my army, the elites stormed the camp and as the superiors went looking for thirds their final 6-pack of the day gave them indigestion. Meantime I'd pincered the Swiss lights with mine to push Nigel over the line.
Game 4 saw a welcome return for the man of Jelley. And not just for the 25-0! Phillip had brought Danish can openers to a musket fight and by game four he must have been thoroughly fed up of being shot to shreds before contact. Still, he took his licks without demur and we both got away early.

The only thing I'd change about the format is maybe it was a mistake to do the initial draw on date - I think A/M v R would have mixed things up nicely. Also, instead of the usual one two, how about prizes for R winner and A/M winner with an overall prize for which of the two got most points.

I think RBS's Persians would certainly have given Ben a run for his money - Superior Armoured MF with Bow and Light Spear anyone?

Dave,

Thanks for this. Certainly like these suggestions; are there any more out there?

Checking dates and amount of space available for next offer of the same event. How would everyone feel about a 3 game Sunday only version?

Tom
