Is there a setting I can tweak?

Post by Spectre_USA »

To make an Acer Aspire 1 netbook play nice with Airstrike?

It meets the specs, and originally whined about D3Dx_28.dll or something similar, so installed DirectX 9c on this mini-laptop
running Win7 32 with native DirectX 11.

The DX9 install cured the error, but now I get a white screen followed by a Windows crash report.

It is no biggie, as it runs just fine on my gaming rig at home, but I'm on the road for the next week, and would like to curl
up in my hotel room and blast the bits out of some Lutwaffe types.

You know, an INI setting that says "sure, run at 1024 x 600."?

Hello,

Spectre_USA > Can you please look into log.html and copy text which is inside file here?, log.html should be located inside install directory, in the same directory as ac.exe. And what is default (resp. monitor) resolution of your mini laptop - 1024 x 600 ?

Thanks!

Ooo, that is a handy little item, spells it out pretty well;

<html>
<head> Air Strike: Aces of WWII - Log File </head>
<body>
<center><font>
Air Strike: Aces of WWII - Log File </font></center><br><br>
<font><b>CreateDevice: FAILED </b></font><br>
<font><b>Resolution:1024x768</b></font><br>
<font><b>CreateDevice: FAILED </b></font><br>
<font><b>HardwareVertexProcessing 0</b></font><br>
<font><b>CreateDevice: FAILED </b></font><br>

<font><b>BackBufferFormat 16 bit</b></font><br>
<font><b>CreateDevice: FAILED </b></font><br>
<font><b>Your graphics card is no compatible with Direct3D9</b></font><br>

And yes, it does do 1024 x 600 natively.

It is an Intel chipset, not nVidia or ATi.

I think that problem is sure in resolution.

You can setup up lower resolution e.g. 800x600 and try start game, but not all intels chips have hardware vertex processing, and if HW vertex processing is not supported by graphic card, game automatically turn it off and switch to emergency resolution (1024x768) and then game will try again initialize Direct3D.

If lower resolution not helps, i uploaded special exe with "emergency" resolution 1024x600 http://3division.net/acfix.zip unzip archive and copy acfix.exe to the same directory as ac.exe, then run acfix.exe. Can you please try it and reply here if it helps or not? :) If not please again copy content of log.html

Thanks!

Here I sit at the airport in Portland, Oregon on the way to Sacramento, with the fine strains of AirStrike Eagles playing!

Youse guys rock!

I had tried the 800x600, but the log.html kept showing 1024x768 fail, as per your description.

I used the ACFix.exe and it fired up. Kludgy, and the options screen is a little out of sorts. "Special effects, medium 1024x768."

But it is much better'n a white screen and a crash message! Will try to tweak it in to be playable, but this Intel chipset may be
this things Achille's heel.

Hopefully, I won't have to wait until Monday to get another AirStrike fix.

Many thanks Peter...

I also have problems with an ACER 1 netbook. I get the same message about missing d3dx9_28.dll. Running windows XP with that evil Intel card for graphics. The game works fine on a fill size laptop with the same intel graphics set using Vista (a curse upon it).

Vista was DirectX 10, IIRC.

You can actually install DX9c in conjunction with V10. I did it, as stated above, with Win 7 and DX 11.

Try that...

Have done this now but have gotten a white screen and have tried different resolutions with no change ... I guess it is progress.

Have done that and messed around a bit .... runs mildly erratic but until they do a genuine fix it'll have to do. Thanks for the help.

If you get a missing dx dll message you need to download and install the latest version of DirectX 9.0c.
