Strange Slitherine Avatars?

Post by 76mm »

Hi, I did a search on this topic but didn't find anything, so...

Just wanted to ask what the deal is with the strange assigned avatars at Slitherine--why am I a U-boat? Why can't we assign our own avatars, like every other forum on the market, including Matrix's?

Not the end of the world but every time I come to this forum I feel like I'm going back to the 90s...

depending on the post count, you get auto assigned a war Avatar which has been pre done for a given number of posts, wasn't here when it was invented or made so can't comment on why or who did it either, but no someone who may so have posted a reply to them so once he is online, he may have more of an idea

Thanks for the link, with its 2011 description of this avatar system as "the next generation of wargaming" and inviting us to participate in the forums and "watch our avatar level up". Oh boy, LOL!!!

Luckily this is the only forum that I've seen that uses this clunky, unattractive practice, rather than letting users choose their own avatars. I vote that Slitherine join the "current generation of wargaming" and update its avatar system to industry standards.

You probably would be surprised with the number of users that actually prefer this system.

OK I guess I'd better get posting so that I can get back to a cool avatar. Only another 484 posts to a Jagdpanther...

I for one love my Panzer III, much better than that cavalry I had before.

I like my bomber, but I've been waiting for almost a year now to find out what the next one is.

Judging from the different avatars the one who made the decision to have that order must be either a WW2 German mechanic or just someone who loves German WW2 equipment.

Why don't we have the ability to use spoiler tags in our posts?

maybe it's never been asked?

you can always suggest it, and it may or may not get added, depending on how many think it's a good idea or not, or if admin and the forum tech guys want it etc
