Re: Charging with disrupted archers
No. You're attempting to declare one charge, so only test once.

Re: shock troops and charging
I had a BG (offensive spear) that was providing overlap support to another of my BGs in combat. An enemy BG was in charge range of my shock BG that was providing overlap support in combat. The rules do not say whether I have to test 'not to charge' or 'charge' with the Shock Offensive spear that is...

Re: Early Republican Roman
This list gives a wodge of Hastati and Principes, with Triarii then taken as 1 per 4 Hastati. What happens if you take 12 Hastati - does this mean that you take 2 Triarii? Or do you take 4? Or are you not allowed to take Hastati that isn't divisible by 4? The 1 per 4 thing means you must take Hasta...

Re: Charging
The rules have always been applied with "Choosing not to line up" being the same as "cannot line up". Well, it's a rare situation. However, the wording on page 70 is clear. You have the wording on P69 covering how people line up normally. The first bullet on page 70 it says (my ...

Re: Charging Without Orders
A BG cannot be contracted to avoid hitting enemy who would otherwise be in the path of it's charge (P52). As the BGs are aligned, BG A's left hand base is 'looking' at the left hand base of BG C it seems. So surely BG a is unable to contract, as they would avoid hitting enemy BG C's base. So BG A c...

Re: Internal Overlaps
Pete is correct. The 1st bullet on page 84 states that"a battle GROUP can be overlapped by one file at each end of its 4 EDGES - even if it is stepped forward. In this case its right hand EDGE is overlapped on both ends - because neither end is excluded by bullet 2 - as quoted by Pete So if I'...

Re: Charging
I believe the wood prevents the new charge Terry. There is not a 1 base wide gap if the engaged BGs are fighting as if conformed. The 'enemy BG' does not have to conform because to do so would expose it to a flank charge. I believe that is irrelevant. The wording is "fights as if conforms"...

Re: Wheeling and then moving straight
It's A. The table on page 38 tells you that an advance can be "A forward move of less than full distance and/or with a single wheel...". So an advance could be just a single wheel, in which case one corner is stationary and you measure the direct line distance for the other corner. Or the ...

Re: Warfare 2021 Entries
All, I've not been able to contact anyone in charge of the Warfare tournament organisation - they are not responding to me on grounds of data protection. So, if you have bought a ticket for someone else could you email to tournaments@wargamesreading.co.uk to let them know, and I suggest copy the oth...

Re: Artillery charged in the flank
thanks Graham I am still using version 2 and couldn't find the reference in my book. So if the 2 base artillery BG is charged in the flank the base which is contacted turns to face but the other base stays where it is and continues to face forward and cannot take part in the combat. Is that correct...

Re: Artillery charged in the flank
Can Artillery (light or heavy) move (expand), in the melee phase, the second base of their BG to the side to face the enemy BG that charged the flank? This may be different for light artillery or heavy artillery as Light artillery have a 2" move and heavy can only pivot 1". a second quest...

Re: Warfare 2021 Entries
A quick update on entries. There's been some double ordering and some people (Duncan Thompson - 2 tickets - and Phil Powell) now can't come and have offered up their tickets free of charge. And Dave Morrison/Jon Patrick have one spare between them. I've emailed the organisers to check if they have a...

Re: undrilled impact foot
Yes. What it really wants to do is charge in and slaughter the enemy. You've confused it by telling it not to.
