Re: Scenarios??

Here are my ideas There is no fundamental reason why scenario based games have to be corps level . Divisions are the building blocks which may produce force levels either side of a Corps. All force levels can be expressed in Divisions – which may specify mixed and cavalry and with a maximum of point...

Re: Keeping FOG N growing

"You can please some of the people some of the time..." etc. Blinding glimpse of the obvious. Bear in mind folks, those on here ( this thread, on this forum) are a self selected small vocal (sic) sample so we don't really know who " the people" as a population are and what they r...

Re: Second Move-Further Clarifications Requested

Blathergut wrote:First is correct.

The second move is complex, requiring a CMT. If it is failed, you cannot make the complex second move.
Impeccable logic - a second move is not as such a simple move. This is consistent with the overall FOG design concept for CMTs not just FoG(N).

Re: FoGN competition scoring

How do you find the Tyrolean army to use? It was one of my obsessions among others to get it in and I keep toying with the idea of a big investment with Eureka who do them in 28mm- supplementing my Austrian Landwehr and Jaegers. It's definately a challenge, but by no means a lame duck in my view - ...

Re: Keeping FOG N growing

Just making the point we are not the decision makers and it is not our resources (for the most part) that we commit - and they include time which in business is at a premium . Terry has been trying to set up a meet with JD for some time - not just on this as there are other irons in the fire . He an...

"I understand that the intent was to show a historic bias for conserving cavalry to ensure that any pursuit was effective. But this seems somewhat misplaced in a competition setting where it potentially adds the wrong weight to both army mix selection and to game decisions in favour of cavalry-...

Re: Keeping FOG N growing

I get the impression it hasn't sold vast numbers since there are, as mentioned, only a handful of us here who comment repeatedly. This is a generic issue with Forums, especially ones that have a sign in mechanism unique to themselves. I note across a number of communication areas that there is anot...

Re: Keeping FOG N growing

Yes we should like to go for version 2.0 subject to Slitherine’s support. To package up the errata etc but also to review some elements including the lists. And to make it a much more practical document ditching all that Osprey eye candy  ,the lousy fonts, including the colour palate and point...

Re: firing and cavalry attachment

I wonder what Terry has to say. There is a logic in considering the attachment as similar to a cavalry unit dedicated to one unit. But the rules say nothing about it . I think you could argue a few different ways historically. In some historical OBs it is the remaining squadrons of a regiment. In o...

Re: Cavalry pass through and the LOC

Good analysis by Deadtorius. Key principle - why did we set up the LOC concept in these rules ? To reflect on and create an incentive for commanders to safeguard their lines of communication and supply. These were a matters of great concern to commanders at the time and were abandoned only at great ...

Re: Firing arc and Squares

At one point Terry suggested letting squares rotate to avoid this. I don't know if it went past a comment stage. It seems a tad silly to be able to avoid the fire by aiming at a corner. Folk need to remember a FOG(N) infantry unit is a regiment of 2 or more Btns or small Bde of single Btns and with...

Re: LRR List suggestions

Agreed -and the list works much better in 25mm. At 15mm it struggles. Is that, in your view, because of the relative spatial dynamics of the two scales and the base sizes? I rarely do FoG(AM )in 15mm ( mainly as my regular opponent enjoys 28mm far more) but in either scale I always play on a minimu...

Re: Rules & List Books Not Available??

I do not object, in principle, to publishing the rules electronically. In fact, there are some real potential advantages, not the least of which is potential cost savings (that could be passed on to the players). But there are many, many potential pitfalls, and the FoG:AM v2 publication ended up fa...

Re: Rules & List Books Not Available??

The online shop is showing the rules and both list books as unavailable. Same for FoGR books. Will these eventually be available again? Or are these available through other sources? Wondered since Dead. and I are putting on a demo game of FoGN at our upcoming convention. Neither Terry nor I know th...

Re: to tell or not to tell

Well whatever the literal or acceptable interpretation of rules I would consider it a courtesy in all my games, all of which are " friendlies" to point out such information at the start ( helps me to remember it too :D ). But if my regular opponent subsequently forgets something to his dis...

Re: Briene 1814

So far have played Talavera, Marengo and now Brienne. All 3 had very historical outcomes or outcomes with the realm of history. In many ways I am finding the historical scenarios more rewarding than even points. Even though I am usually not playing as the Umpire. Yes I find scenarios historically b...
