Re: impact foot

Reiter type cavalry quickly disappeared though. There is no demonstrable historical trend either way. It is just unprovable either way with the known primary sources. The only undisputable thing is by the time of the Napoleonics, cavalry was overwhelmingly sabre equipped. I'm not talking about reit...

Re: impact foot

From top down design perspective the important thing is, are there consistent descriptions of battles where units become notably worse at fresh impact after first contact and melee with the lack of missiles/lances mentioned as a factor? Perhaps the Romans had enough pila relative to the number throw...

Re: Replace the field fortifications of the Ottoman infantry in the 1362-1429 AD's army list with the stakes?

------------------------ So my current conclusion (for a revision in the next update) is: 1362-1429 list: Janissaries and massed Azabs optionally have stakes. FF only useable in Defensive battles Just to clarify, does this mean that in defensive battles there will be a toggle buttons for both FF an...

Re: Replace the field fortifications of the Ottoman infantry in the 1362-1429 AD's army list with the stakes?

In terms of gameplay the description of speedy setup does push the nature the Ottoman stakes towards FoG2 stakes even if they were likely a deeper defense. I do recall the stakes at Battle of Nicopolis being discussed in the beta forums during one of the earlier DLC betas but I don't remember if the...

Re: Replace the field fortifications of the Ottoman infantry in the 1362-1429 AD's army list with the stakes?

From what I have read the stakes at Nicopolis weren't used like the English used stakes. The English stakes were used as more of a spontaneous shallow defense that could be set up at short notice. The stakes at Nicopolis were much deeper prepared field of obstacles. Functionally I imagine it would b...

Re: Development wishlist

I'd like an option to use FoG2 Medieval terrains graphics (except the buildings) in the ancients (and vice versa for those who prefer the latter style). It would be a bit like the different ground texture options in Sengoku Jidai. Ancients doesn't have a winter set but I don't think that would be mu...

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval - Rise of the Swiss is Out Now

I looked on the ad for the Rise of the Swiss but did not see any list of what all armies are being offered with the DLC? Anyplace I can find that out? From the Features tab on the Slitherine store page of the Rise of the Swiss: -Additional coverage for the following nations and factions from the in...

Re: Asian military innovations in the late Middle Ages.

I don't think there's any hard case against expanding the Field of Glory 2 to east or making it into another Standalone game like Sengoku Jidai. East Asian settings isn't that niche even for the western audience if the marketing is focuses on the Japan aspect and then there's the Chinese Steam audie...

Re: Parthian shot

To minimize the odds of being caught while evading, try to shoot from range 2 rather than range 1 and try not to be in the direct path of the knights that charge your shooter on their turn.

Re: UI suggestions

When you turn an artillery unit and mouse over a potential target the UI will only tell "Can't shoot when moved". It would be more useful to see the full usual shooting info (out/half/full arc, in range, long range, blocked los etc) even in that situation so you could make more informed ro...

Re: About the Crécy scenario

Making a scenario that can only play out one way would be pretty pointless in a strategy game. If you want to see a battle happen just like in the history books you can watch a documentary or read a book. There are also many different estimates of the contribution of the Genoese crossbowmen in the b...

Re: Fragmented cavalry pursuing / charging

While typical charge would be done by well organized troops a pursuit following breakthrough from melee could be very spontaneous and bloodthirsty affairs. I think of a unit getting "charged" by a pursuing unit as the routed troops fleeing into the friendly formation while their pursuers a...

Re: UI suggestions

Agreed. All I'm asking is having the option to turn off the banners. And if they could add more natural looking bases, that would be bonus. "Natural looking base" sounds a bit self-contradicting :D. I wouldn't mind a more easily visible color coded option for the tiles that have units on ...

Re: Game mode with camps

The simplest way to do camps that I can think of would be immobile unit (or several units grouped together for a larger camp) that would contribute significantly to the overall rout percent. The camp would have to be charged and dwindled down in fairly one sided melee (i.e. looting) over a few turns...

Re: Is there a mechanic for how can I rally my troops back after routing?

Units rally automatically and there isn't much you can practically do to influence it. At baron difficulty there are probably more enemy units routing at any given time which means there's higher chance of them being the ones rallying, and if the enemy units are high quality that increase their chan...

Re: Field of Glory II: Medieval - New Patch (v. 1.2.5)

New Rules: See the picture below. 3.jpg I do not think this is what was intended by the ZoC rule change. One way I can think to allow the described situations above to operate as they did before while still allowing the rule change to have the desired effect is to add an "If" to the new r...

Re: Bows and slings

The sling seems to have disappeared from some Western medieval armies in favour of the bow, for example in the Anglo-Norman, the Anglo-Irish, the English or the French. Why, if this statement is true and if both weapons really had the same shooting range and efficiency ? Is it a matter of cultural ...

Re: Bows and slings

I don't think there's need or even sense in trying to split sling itself into several weapon types any more than there is for bows (longbow being an outlier and fan service rather than the norm in FoG2). While lead is the best ancient ammo for long range slinging, it's not strictly mandatory for ach...

Re: Bows and slings

I agree but I don't see how any of that translates into slingers having no long range and foot archers having it. I have never come across accounts where ancient slings would have struggled to hit or kill at long range any more than bows. So to reiterate my question: Why would all foot bowmen, inclu...

Bows and slings

The capabilities of both bows and slings in FoG2 system is something that has always seemed a bit weird to me. This is how the weapons work in the FoG games: - Slings are always in 240 man light infantry units and always have a range of 2. - Infantry bows come in 240 man light and 480 man massed uni...
