Re: Proposals summary for playtesting
Some input from the "Way of the Warriors" tourney I believe.

Re: Not a request for change/amendment, but worth debating?
Well I used to like it as I was notorious for estimating distances by eye far too accurately for my opponents. A genuine skill in this game of chanceHeh, next we're going to have someone suggest we go back to the good old days of banning pre-measurement.

Re: Not a request for change/amendment, but worth debating?
Interesting idea but in this case simplified game play trumps realism I think. Quite happy to give it a go in a friendly at the club though Ronan.

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting
Nothing has been decided yet about what we are going with for the Southampton round which includes the new rules and the points.
I was going to wait until July but I have been thinking of late about getting something out a bit earlier so players will know which way we are going.

Re: Proposals summary for playtesting
Sorry the potential implications of that are too significant for it to be considered at the stage we are at with the update. Bit suprised at this. I thought the whole point of testing the amendments at competitions was to get more feedback especially from such seasoned players as Bob. I know this s...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules
I must admit to actively trying to juggle my armies around and play different periods over any given year. That said I would say 80% of my gaming is FOG bound either Ancients(from Biblical to Medieval) to a more focussed Renaissance period. My AWI and naval stuff put in rare appearances and the rest...

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules
Like many of the players, I've now racked up hundreds of games of FoGR over the last six years and after Britcon last year realised I'm bored of the same set of rules. Maybe that is the simple reason for the unexpectedly (to me) rapid death of FOGR competitions, along with the unavailabilty of the ...

Re: Roll Call 2017
Decent scenery is always good to have and I suspect we will be playing FOGR at the club level for years to come. What version of FOGR though remains to be seen.Great - just as I invest in some decent scenery.....

Re: Roll Call 2017
Looks like the demise of FOGR on the competition circuit is well under way. Shame because it is still the best Renaissance set out there. Appears that the longevity of any ruleset on the competion circuit is finite and dwindling regardless of how good the rules are. New and shiny the perennial appeal?

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules
What doesn't seem right is all this 11th hour second guessing that the update team has spent the last six months throwing together a bunch of ill-considered proposals just to facilitate a-historical interactions in open tournaments. Give them a bit more credit than that, OK? Again to be fair to Don...

Re: Cavalry - a package of proposals
So cavalry with bow are now sufficiently mobile to turn 180degrees move back 2" and then turn back again but not sufficiently mobile to turn 180 degrees and move and then keep going? (Which of course their lighter bretheran can) Hahaha As in FOGAM I never viewed this as a turn, move, turn mano...

Totally agree with you there. Same with pursuit; if the BG pursues more than 3" lose the marker otherwise keep it. Still simple.

Re: Why are we ruining my favourite set of rules
Nice to hear from you Alasdair. I think a few things needed officially tweaking, like artillery and some of the lists. I see the logic of the commanded shot changes; dragoons being super troops never occurred to me and pretty much everything else I can live without. I can only base my experience on ...

Re: QRS??
There are no rule changes yet Steve, just proposals that are being tested in some games at the club. So that means no official QRS update sheet necessary yet.
Happy to go through what has been discussed when I see you at the club next.

Re: BG Autobreak - proposal
A lost cause I know but I have been pondering how to depict the Swiss under the new regime. My own view of the Swiss was set very early on by Mr Gush in "Renaissance Armies", which may of course be an outdated view, but to quote at length: " The Swiss troops of this period were remark...

Re: Potential Dates for 'Way of The Warriors' 2017
I wasn't aware that the BG limit to army break was still under discussion. I know it was mentioned at some point but as our period does not suffer(?) from the "Dominate Roman swarm effect" that caused it's introduction in FOGAM2 I thought it wasn't a proposal. Just to clarify, it doesn't l...

Any follower of your battle reports know you love a good marker! And bases = rectangles, markers = circles are a nice distinction.

Will that competition include warriors? My highlanders would have been delighted at the Flodden refight last weekend that they could charge before the bows got a short range shot off.
