You can give yourself an advance in the settings to make it easyer. Some scenarios are not winnable for both sides.

For my personally taste the simple optic of the units would be a funkiller for me, but thats only my personally standpoint. But a lot of people plays "The operational Art of war ", so this game will also find hits followers.I whish a lot of selled copys.

Is it possible to toggle the AI and have allow the human to play both sides, for the deployment phase and maybe the first couple moves. that way the human player could at least deploy the opposing army reasonably; Before handing the fight over to the AI. The randomness of the dice is the biggest weakness of this game for me. A much more sophisticated system needs to be employed.
