Re: Legion Arena walkthrough
I won't waste your time with a detailed battle plans for every little skirmish, and namely the opening minicampaigns will be described without unnecessary details. Latium (the first minicampaign): Pretty straightforward. Dismiss all your starting units and get the Auxilia. Keep them with the Legate....

Legion Arena walkthrough
LEGION ARENA walkthrough. So, after a dozen of finished runs of stock Legion Arena campaigns, I realized that I could make this little "walkthrough". Note that this isn't "the one and only way how to win"; it's just something I discovered after many hours of playing Legion Arena...

Re: Scenario Editing
I cant promise anything - 7 years is a long time but see if that helps! Have you get the xls files as these are easier to view and edit than pure text. I already got the .xls, I'm not used to work with it, but it's definitely easier than a pure text. I hope that I'll have some success with the modd...

Re: Scenario Editing
The MapLocks files determines the flow of the campaign I think and you can set it to be anything you like. Group masks determines which campaigns maps appear in. Its not pretty that's for sure but I think that's how it works... Iain, if that's true, than I need your address. Wouldn't be the carnati...

Re:
I had the feeling when I was working on Britannicus, and when I finished it, that it was probably the best design work I had ever done. As you can see from this thread, not a whole lot of people have played it, but the reaction has generally been very positive from those who have. +1 positive react...

Re: Scenario Editing
Since yesterday I'm tinkering with Legion Arena modifications. I'm at the very beginning and far from any results, and it even looks like I won't make it through the initial stages, as the process of modding wants much more patience (read: stubborness) than I can sacrifice. Thus I've got few questio...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Hi guys, it's nice that this discussion is going on! :) When it comes to the anti -/- skills on infantry, I think that they work, just that the game doesn't show that. Maybe it's exactly as written above: it looks like that Slitherine forgot to add the icon. When it comes to the Triarii/Praetorians ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
I also noticed that Spearmen are overall worse than Auxilia. Not to mention the difference in healing cost... A little off topic: Imho the intial stage of the Celtic campaign is too user hostile. Namely the first two time limit battles (Chief's Sword and Greek Landing) are badly designed, the latter...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
For Heavies, I have come to prefer the selection og 1 Triari, and 2 Legionaires. I specialize the Triari on Anti-Cav, Protection from Cav, and Stand Firm. (But be sure to select one or 2 Swordsman before buying the big spear.) I find the convenience of a dedicated anti-cav clear terrain unit worth ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Well, Aleks, that's certainly interesting, and you are playing on Very Hard, where I've never really gone; I have to respect you very much for that. With Legion Arena now relegated to the category of "Classic Games" (i.e. moldy oldies), I'd have to say you are now the foremost practitione...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
I'm back. 8) I've tried something a little bit different. But with all those tries in several past weeks, I can't tell if it is the army, who improves, or if it is just me and my memory. AUXILIARY LEGION (Very Hard) http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/da62/a2r1vhro48dhk466g.jpg Legate 62 Auxilia ...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
Well, that's interesting, you've certainly ended with a very elite force there. Although, I must politely disagree on the heavy infantry. I think they have their place. So have you played the CoM add-on campaign? I'd be very interested to see how the endgame army posted above would fare in CoM. Yea...

Re: End of Game Army Composition
I've said to myself that I really shouldn't be wasting my time with Legion Arena... so I started Great Battles of Rome again. But pretty soon I realized that I really dislike to skylark with all those weak starting units. GBoR is nice because the historic tree adds another strategy element - j...

Re: Cavalry Tactics
I've abandoned my two tries of Roman campaign (in the classic Legion Arena). The first one was stopped during the Siege of Arretium, as I was unable to make it through the scenario with my new build - far too many missile troops. Even though I finaly manage to defeat the enemy, I was quite tired of ...

Re: Cavalry Tactics
Whoa, necro is right, you revived this beast from three years ago :) I honestly haven't played Legion Arena/COM for over a year; I should dig it out and dust it off. That and Spartan/Gates of Troy were my two favorite Slitherine games of all time. :D Yeah, not the freshiest of threads, but I wished...

Re: Cavalry Tactics
Necroed! A copy-paste work from my other post... Note: *) Over the months (well, years maybe?) I designed a very powerful horsemen tactic, one that I had much success with. Unless the map dictates otherwise, I run the cavalry into the nearest/most dangerous enemy and then Trample-Disengage-Trample u...
