Re: How to avoid clipping of text in GS

A lot of text simulation games include fonts in the game install to ensure the game text always displays as intended regardless of the OS version. This is not as important as GS game changes of course but is this something that might be possible for GS? In one of my games I noticed fonts used that w...

GE volunteer countries of origin

Can someone confirm what original country GS uses for this German volunteer unit: SS Wiking and Nordland I imagine it is Norway, Denmark or Sweden, but need confirmation for a GS graphics fix. Additionally, could someone also confirm that these are the countries of origin for the other GS volunteer ...

Re: GS 2.1 Commander range/coverage questions

I've done some tests and can answer these Q's in case anyone else is curious. I've added a 4th related question & answer here as well... 1. In the game option screen there is an option for reduced commander ranges. I believe this refers to the v2 change listed in the manual as "Range = Lead...

GS 2.1 Commander range/coverage questions

1. In the game option screen there is an option for reduced commander ranges. I believe this refers to the v2 change listed in the manual as "Range = Leader Value - 2" . If you uncheck the option for reduced commander ranges does that mean "Range = Leader Value" ? 2. In the gener...

Re: Are GS game events triggered by dates or by turn number?

Just in case anyone else is interested in this I ran a 1936-1940 test. The only game events triggered by turn number appear to be the UK and French entry into the war. Everything else appears to be date or event triggered. Edit: Hrm, I should actually be able to change the UK and France starting &qu...

Re: Are GS game events triggered by dates or by turn number?

Thanks for the replies guys. Samhain : Interesting - that test was just for Poland and the USSR move into Eastern Poland, or did you sim a little further as well? amcdonel: The manual is likely not going to provide the answer I'm looking for here. It describes dates with the assumption the player is...

Re: How is CEaW as a single player game?

I don't feel the GS version of the game improves the AI much, and in some instances it might even make it worse. That's because the game AI won't take advantage of all the GS game changes & additions, while the human player can. Leaders are one example - I don't believe the AI purchases leaders,...

Are GS game events triggered by dates or by turn number?

I'm pretty certain the nation entry dates in the "scn" files are triggered by the game date, but what about some of the Grand Strategy specific event triggers that have been added to the game? I believe there are event triggers for USSR entry (when not attacked in 1941), and possibly sever...

Re: Commander - Europe at War or PanzerCorps as my next game

Hi everyone, I didn't know where to post my inquiry so I decided to do it in this forum since it is one of the game I am considering. I am currently enjoying Battle Academy on my mac as my first Slitherine game. I really like the game with its tactical squad based strategies. However, I'd also be i...

Re: Modding oil use

You could edit the scenario file (EG: '1939.scn') to give the axis more oil to start with. If you want a gradual increase then increase the oil income of a German hex by 1 or 2 (or more). That would give them x (x = whatever amount you increased that oil hex value to) extra oil per turn. That hex ch...

Re: Good WW2 speculative fiction

"SS-GB" by Len Deighton is an excellent fictional account of a world where Germany successfully invaded Britain in the early years of WW2. Note that it won't necessary match up to the what-if experiments of a CEAW:GS successful Sea Lion invasion:).

And another related thread , this one with the following quote from a Bf 109 technical history researcher: "Me 109 incident/accident list mentions less than 1000 takeoff/landing accident out of 26000 cases" Then again, the Wiki page says "At least 10% of all Bf 109s were lost in takeo...

Re: Bef ME 109 - Interesting Fact

I suspect this 'fact' is not actually a verified fact at all, but one of many WW2 stories that gets repeated often enough to be taken as fact. No doubt there were serious issues with the 109 landing gear design, especially with weight related upgrades to the plane as the war went on, but it looks li...

Re: Odds prediction is seriously screwed in late years

I don't worry about odds. I just keep quitting and reloading the game until I get good *results.* If you run the same battles 20-30 times, sooner or later you get really awesome luck! And the best thing about it is that your opponent thinks, "Wow, this guy's like the best general ever!" H...

Re: Debate continues (see Morris vs. JoeRock AAR)

How could the British naval traffic through the Suez between England and the Far East manage to survive sailing through the Ionian Sea? Axis naval and air units could bombard these ships from Libya, Sicily and Sardinia. Italian subs would be particularly dangerous. My impression is that the real li...

Re: Debate continues (see Morris vs. JoeRock AAR)

My understanding was that the US wanted to invade, or try to invade, France in 1942; but that it was Churchill who wanted to take the safer route of North Africa followed by Italy. The US did not care about North Africa & the Middle East when they went to war at the end of 1941. They had no int...
