Re: Commanded Shot

A marker system has no edge to edge or corner to corner definitions for getting the benefit of the CS, so this is not an issue. :D = mounted  = commanded shot marker/commanded shot foot Sure, but having this:  :D :D :D :D looks a lot more odd to me than: :D :D   :D :D

Re: Dragoons

Is there any evidence for evasion by dragoons on the battlefield in this period? By chance I have come across a possible example from the ECW where some dragoons faced with horse advancing on them at about "half musket shot" fired a volley and then "they took horse and away they run&...

Re: FoG:R Update - Better Armour PoA

I think we've got to resolve the effect of armour as it would be, and then work points out afterwards. The biggest reason I can see for mucking around with the armour rules is that DH are crap in comparison to Cuirassiers. So, maybe those who say 'no change is required' are correct, but the problem ...

Re: Commanded Shot

I started to write something last night, but the last few messages on the board has made me want to write it again. I'm starting to prefer the bases instead of makers idea. Here's my thoughts. A BG of mounted (as per a list to be generated by someone with more knowledge than I) can be supported by 2...

Re: Captured Artillery

Agreed Nick - take 'em off but only if the capturing BG wants to - I suspect the only time this option would be chosen is if you were well on top!! Clean and simple! Don Nah, I disagree with this. Take them off, with no options IMHO. I can see (with your rule Don) that someone will deliberately lea...

Re: Commanded Shot

I'm not sure the Swedish Commanded Shot should ever have been anyway! I always thought that the Salvo represented a shot before they charged in and I can see Commanded shot charging other cavalry. It can also be a shot just before the lines clash as well... i.e. the receipt of a charge. Given we're...

Re: Commanded Shot

How this sound as an idea (more for flavour than anything - and I have no idea on the history of it, just going by the lists as written): What if Salvo commanded shot gave a +1POA regardless on impact. This gives the Swedes that one extra bit of biff if they are up. Just totally spit balling. Don't ...

Re: Light Artillery

The fact is that light artillery costs almost half as much as heavy artillery, for less than 1/4 the range. I would make them less expensive and capable either of keeping pace with foot BGs, or making divisional moves. They are a LOT more useful than Heavy Artillery. I'd prefer 4 Light Artillery to...

Re: Other Artillery stuff

just adding for completeness... considering the thought that we allow Light Artillery divisional moves, should we (for simplicity) include ALL guns? This would only mean a pivot (and resultant extension of that pivot by wheeling the rest of the division on that pivot point) for unlimbered arty, but ...

Re: Light Artillery

being cautious about unintended consequences I'm actually wondering about just allowing divisional moves, leaving the move at 2 MU and the range at 8MU (maybe 9MU). This one just feels a bit risky as Light Artillery have been so little used that there isn't much to work with. I personally see 'allo...

Re: Bows

I think the bow vs pike and shot interaction that many people have cited components of here include the 6 bases vs often 8 bases. This whole interaction has sort of bugged me from early on. However I don't have a good solution or even a preferred one. That's exactly why I created the BG size thread...

Re: Dragoons

A solution would be to: automatically eliminate Dragoons contacted by mounted in clear. Reduce the evade distance of Dragoons by 1 MU in the clear. Gotta be super careful with this one. There is at least one historical account of dragoods mounting up and charging. I'' not sure what the target was, ...

Re: Commanded Shot

A strict requirement of any change is to end the Command shot operating as their own BGs when not with mounted. Anything that does not fix this is failure. That was an ability that could be horribly abused or oddly used that makes no sense. I tend to favor having them as MF and deployed attached to...

Re: Captured Artillery

I have found a lot casual players just minimize artillery as a liability. I think it depends a lot on the amy. The Loius XIV I considered the compulsory artillery a tax, and paid the 24 points and kept the light guns back where they wiuldn't get lost. Sometimes I even deployed them with my baggage....

Re: Dragoons

Is there any evidence for evasion by dragoons on the battlefield in this period? Again, it depends on what you're talking about. If you're talking about 'shootie shootie shootie "oh, they are charging", mount up and leave the current locale' probably not specifically. Are there examples o...
