Re: ARTILLERY in FIELD FORTIFICATIONS

Can we clarify the shooting arc please ? As you can see in my other thread on FF , is it 180 degrees ( I guess measured from the center of the back side ) or is it on the 3 "active" facings ( front, left side and right side ) ? If it's the latter , can you approach the FF at 45 degress and...

Re: Fortifications shape and size ?

I'm not sure how the models fit matters at all . That sort of thinking is more FoG A logic . I think FOG N treats FF differently. You are not buying a section to cover the front of your element , you are buying ( as was pointed out ) a box with sides but no back . The box has 2 sizes , small and lar...

Re: Fortifications shape and size ?

Yup , except The sides cant be 6MU because then the diagonal would be greater than 6MU and it cannot measure more than 6MU in any direction (p78) I just think a straight edge is clearer for play but we are essentially saying the same thing You're right about firing , it is greater than 180 degrees ,...

Fortifications shape and size ?

Hi All , My Ottomans have a large imobile battery in fortifications ,how do I represent this ? There is no basing sizes for FF in the rules so my logic runs like this.... I have paid for 3 fortification sections . Is it like a building , in that the model doesnt matter, it's just a rectangle no more...

Re: Wheeling in a charge

I'm not sure "it doesn't seem right" . It's my turn so I can act to stop being ganged up on . I don't just have to sit and take it .It's my move so I can make choices in my targets ,if you have come forward in such a way to allow me to. You can opt to counter charge with the non-targeted u...

Re: How do you beat a max mounted army?

This thread seems to have shifted a little , but we have run our last 2 FoG R tournements with scenarios and fixed terrain . We also run the comp as "in period" and vary the period each year . This has proved to be great fun and works very well . The scenarios can be capture objectives or ...

Re: 3 (hopefully) quick questions

You're right , I should have said "can my charging skirmishing LC evade an intercept"

Sorry for any confusion , lets all be glad I don't write rules :)

Still, interesting to watch your minds work !

Thanks for the help

Re: 3 (hopefully) quick questions

LOL This is like playing "I have a secret" :) or maybe Cluedo My unit was impetuous LC in skirmish . He put a unit of LC into skirmish in front of me . I had to charge (or take a test not to ) , despite having another enemy unit lined up on my flank . I charged , he intercepted , hence the...

3 (hopefully) quick questions

Hi All , Out of our last game , the following (1) Can you slide before movement ? The player wanted to avoid terrain so slid one base over but the rules only talk about the slide being allowed if a move of at least 3" is completed. (2) Can skirmishers evade an intercept ? I'm sure this has come...

Re: Charge/counter charge measurement

The question was one of distance measurement . So your saying distance is measured after the defender has wheeled to be "pointing at " the enemy . Once that happens the charge/counter charge range is nearest point halved . The actual distance the attacker has to travel is ignored (providin...

Re: Charge/counter charge measurement

Just had a thought :D

If they are off set , the attacker wheels to get an angle which would contact , the defender then wheels to match the new facing , measure the distance between them via their closest points and move .

Does that seem right ? :D

Re: Charge/counter charge measurement

Maybe , :D what about when they are lined up but off set ? So the attacker must wheel to contact , how do we measure it then ?

Re: Charge/counter charge measurement

So, once the counter charging unit wheels to the same facing as the charger, measure the distance from the nearest point between them ? What about when the attacker has to wheel to make contact ? In other words the 2 units are already on the same facing , where do you measure from then ? I'm having ...

Re: Charge/counter charge measurement

Sort of :) thanks "measure from the front of the unit" So measure from the centre of the front edges or nearest front edge point ? Isn't the chargers wheel part of the distance travelled and therefore should be included when working out counter charge distance ? Only the counter charging u...

Charge/counter charge measurement

A Cavalry unit declares a charge on another . The counter charging cav must go half the distance or 4" Any wheel by the counter charging unit doesn't count for distance From where is the counter charge distance measured ? Is it nearest point to nearest point ? OR The distance the chargers must ...

Re: Light Foot shot thru by Arty

Sure , but running LF forward and then dropping shots just past their toes onto a enemy BG is fine . That's some good optics on that arty :)

Light Foot shot thru by Arty

Hi All , Am I right in thinking that my LF can be right up to an enemy BG , ie 1 mm from their front edge but my Arty can still target the enemy BG ? ( assuming the guns are in arc etc ) The only restriction is when the enemy come within 8 " of my guns ? If so , a Superior LF group supported by...

Re: Skirmishers Formation

Also from Terry in the same thread A skirmisher unit in extended line fires as 2 units AT CLOSE RANGE. They still only fire as skirmishers (3 dice for a small unit, 4 for large) .... and they still take the -POA for skirmishers firing at close range. The obvious advantages of being in skirmish forma...
