SKIRMISHERS SHOOTING / ARMY FLANKS

I found that small units of shooting skirmishers on a flank were able to break units of foot and/or cavalry (even Kn) simply by repeated shooting in all 6 of my games. I know my army design was crap, and I needed to have a 4th general on table to bolster my units once they got disrupted etc etc etc ...

My clarifications from Britcon

"ROUNDING" Rounding – up or down (counting shooting bases is down, HP3B is “up” etc), maybe would be better if it was consistent? 1HP3B = I had been doing this wrongly by counting one hit per three complete bases, instead of one hit per complete or part three bases - and it’s a key part of...

3 conclusions:

The unseeded Ruddock clearly fancies himself as a wet dream.....

Si clearly thinks Later Crusader with no mounted is a list so good it can win on its own 8)

Both will end up disappointed

Re: systematic read-through of v6.0

The conforming rule states: At the start of the manoeuvre phase, the active player’s battle groups already in close combat with enemy must (unless otherwise stated below or physically impossible) pivot and/or slide bases by the minimum necessary to conform to the enemy bases in contact: How would t...

Re: systematic read-through of v6.0

WOW - so you can shift sideways loads of base widths in order to maximise frontage in contact with an enemy - and do so with complete BGs, even if they only start by clipping an enemy at impact ???????????????????????? What should happen is the whole BG aligns to the contacted BG if possible but wi...

Re: systematic read-through of v6.0

Page 7 - Battle Group Formations "Only the rear rank is allowed to have less bases". This paragraph can easily be read to say that (as an example) and 8-strong BG could be set up with 6 in the front rank and 2 in the rear rank. It can. OK - but not clear from the examples given, which see...

Thought I should do this at least once before next weekend... So, some comments: Page 7 - Battle Group Formations "Only the rear rank is allowed to have less bases". This paragraph can easily be read to say that (as an example) and 8-strong BG could be set up with 6 in the front rank and 2...

So, the list is presumably not "Late Crusader, Crusaders (Late), Later Crusaders, Tardy Christians on Tour" then. Might be a long weekend..... :P Late Crusader is not a bad list Tim. It is really all about coordinating foot and mounted and keeping your knights supported. Hammy So, thats s...

Sheesh Dave - there are lots of words and phrases in this post I simply don't have in my FoW vocabulary. "...used (insert obscure/any army here) on several occasions" "fairly effective against (insert type of army here)", "..effective for their points" etc etc etc Well...

Assyrians aren't half bad - and are extremely effective against shooty cavalry armies - as my Ilkhanids found to their cost at Leeds. They are less effective against heavy foot. I have used the Neo-Babylonians on several occasions. They are, as you say, fairly effective against shooty cav armies, u...

Not many heavy foot.... Also not as many knightly armies! My rationale was an army ive not used in dbm competitions, and which allowed me to use some troops that rarely got onto the table, and which didnt have troop types i've used before (in my 5 games)... Well, either I have made an inspired choic...

3 Ghaznavids ? That is a great army. I was sure. Nice to get them out of the box again. My son's Ghaznavids were painted by my brother over 30 years ago. one of the few great 7th edition armies killed by dbm, i bet there are a fair few out there waiting to come back. but will...

Re: couple of things from game tonight

2. rounding down rear rank shooters - is this done relative to the shooting unit or the target unit? Target I had a line of bow shooting at cavalry who were in groups of 6 facing off against my 8's - so, for the targets my bowmen were counting 3 front rank and 1 rear rank shooter - so we lost one d...

couple of things from game tonight

1. the 2nd move section is in the wroooong place!!!! it should surely be much nearer the beginning of the move section, 2. rounding down rear rank shooters - is this done relative to the shooting unit or the target unit? nope - just concerned with just one hand that i may not be able to drink and play ... 8) You could get one of those hats which holds a can of beer, with a straw that comes down into your mouth. Remember that once you start sucking it sets up a syphon action so you have to drink all the beer in one ...

Well if I can compete at Roll Call with a broken wrist, you can compete at Britcon with a broken elbow. No slacking! All depends if it his dice throwing hand... Given that most lists have not been published, I think it would be a good idea if everybody bought the "master" version of their...

I am sure he will oblige Si thats the plan. However fracturing my elbow last night wasn't in the plan, and it may take until middle of next week when I see someone more expert than my a&e department, plus a lift up from london to see if I can attend at all.... tim www.backtoonefingeredtyping.com
