Re: Android Crushes iOS

If I could go back in time, I'd likely have spent the too much extra and bought an iPad. But that's it basically. Anything Apple sells in hardware, the other guys are selling for 2/3s the price, and currently the hardware is as good as anything Apple is making. I buy the hardware that does the job a...

Re: Slitherine Group acquires Shenandoah Studio

Good news as wargaming goes :)

I don't have access to an Apple tablet, so I have missed out on the iOS market's games, but I'm at least aware there are some good titles out there.

It's always a good day when the market's games gain strength in numbers.

Re: Has anyone played Panzer Tactics HD?

I only know it from the original Nintendo DS experience.

But from what I know of both games, they have a similar dynamic in that the games play like time sensitive puzzle challenges of strategy.

Re: Sigh, zero post count opponents

My current matches are all coming to a close progressively. Been a few matches I have seriously dropped the ball on :) A few I had not played yet (and it showed hehe). I want to thank to guys that stepped up and offered the games. Apologies if I was a bit tardy some days. But the point of my startin...

Re: I Want a Sandcastle, Not a Competitive Excercise

A very interestingly put argument in favour of non turn based :) Myself, I find real time's biggest flaw, is there is nothing real about the way it uses time at all. Not that I find turn based more 'real', but I have never claimed it was. But I like the Chess like aspect. I like the ability to exami...

Re: wargamers to real war

Been thinking of this thread. Maybe 50 years ago some of our wargame designs might have had some utility value in training. But today's battlefield is dominated by real time communications technology in such density right down to the individual soldier level, and the political apparatus can be so co...

3 Nintendo DS games up for sale (from me that is)

Thanks to life making my eyes older and no longer quite interested in playing on my Nintendo DSi XL which in 2006 seemed like an alright idea, I have had to discontinue playing Nintendo DS games. Alas, I have likely the 3 best titles from my collection unable to be traded in at the local EB Games. T...

Re: wargamers to real war

I've been in uniform.

It would depend entirely on the specific game being commented on.

Some games teach you nothing about real warfare and provide only entertainment (which is often all they were meant to do).

Re: Battle Academy 2 gets a release date!

Great news of course. Inevitable as the sun rising is me being grumpy on that date. Because my needing to buy glasses the other day was like salt in my financial wounds of late. I will of course be trying to move heaven and earth to locate the funds so I can get it anyway. Maybe I will just not eat ...

Re: Where's does our money go?

I am reliably informed that it provides the needed funds to make it possible for staff to go to Comicon each year.

And when sales are really good, then also get to go to Gencon.

Why else would anyone make wargames?

Sounds like you experienced what I encountered with my early release Asus epad Transformer as it did as much as what your tablet did, while my Asus Nexus 7 was ok.

Re: Question on Kindle HDX 8.9

This night not fully answer your question, but, I know this much. The Android beta of Frontline Road to Moscow will not run on my Asus epad Transformer while it will on my Asus Nexus 7. So there are more requirements for some games than just access to the OS (in this case Android latest version). Th...

Re: Young people need to be converted from COD to proper gam

I am not really surprised that wargaming has done very little to encourage the young to be interested. Too much of wargaming has for too long been dominated for too long by miserable old buggers who simply refuse to entertain anything other than themselves and their own agendas. Games like ASL are n...

Re: Young people need to be converted from COD to proper gam

On a side note, I play "World of Tanks" (essentially a FPS but you are driving a tank) and have noticed that the "CoD crowd" frequently dies early -- and uselessly. I am sure they are good at shooting enemy tanks but WoT emphasizes maneuver, deception, timing and (sometimes unsp...

Re: Steam release schedule

So what's the difference in buying games from here or from steam ? If non what is the point? Steam is exposure to new markets and new faces. Not everyone knows of Slitherine Group (sad as that is). I think it is personally a major perk and a very generous act that Slitherine Group extends free Stea...

This is good news. I consider Vic one of my fav developers.

The Small General game and the expansion Eastern Front are very playable and I consider them the gold standard of tablet wargames that I measure everything else against.

Wise idea Enric (the name list). I just surrendered a match I had going, I was being totally owned :) But, I gave a response, a congrats to my opponent and a request for a fresh match. I didn't just not play any more. I am also playing in some other matches, and I am doing ok in them. I hope my oppo...

Re: Unified Login system?

Well, I am not experiencing 'login issues' per se, I am experiencing frustration though in retention issues. There is a limit to how long a person will not mind a window popping up to remind me to log in especially when I check the box indicating I wish to be remembered and am not. This is a Slither...
