Re: Does anybody else think the field medic special is worth

I know that the field medic can repair adjacent units, reputedly that haven't moved or been in combat the previous turn (?). Sometimes that works, but not always in my experience. What am I missing, and what are the other benefits of this unit?

Re: This is a savagely addictive game

I have used a Raider unit to destroy supply in the New Georgia scenario. I regret that I didn't use one in Guadalcanal, which in hindsight might have been the perfect place. The trick is to drive off the Japanese unit defending the supply hex, advance onto it and then the Raider can destroy the supp...

Re: Midway USA advice please

One more thought -- It probably goes without saying, but eliminating the Tulagi invasion force and having the Neosho fleet oiler escape (which only requires a Wildcat to make one attack) in the Coral Sea scenario pays significant benefits in Midway.

Re: Midway USA advice please

This scenario, at least as patched, is very winnable by the US player following a more historical approach. Playing at Captain level, I used four Kingfishers and a PBY to fan out and search for the IJN carriers. Obviously most of these will eventually fall to Zeroes and AA, but I had one Kingfisher ...

Re: Midway no Kamikazes in the game

Two thoughts on the Kamikazes -- First, as already stated, they were not present at Midway. However, one looser definition would be any IJN pilots who attempted suicide attacks as also pointed out. Second, echoing James Jones in his book, WWII, in a sense the USN torpedo bomber pilots were suicidal ...

Re: Arrival of Patch?

Its a lovely song, my uncle used to sing it to me as a child.(I'm now 76) He fought and was wounded 3 times in WW1,the last occasion he was gassed. He subsequently died aged 50 from lung cancer. He jokingly told me that it wasn't a place in Ireland but someone looking for a place where could tip hi...

Re: Streitmacht.com registration- and other problems

I have managed to get registered and have a workable user name and password, but it wasn't easy. The most difficult part seems to be getting translations to English, which if memory serves, is a sometimes thing on this site. Most recently I was able to download a Panzer Corps mod, but in previous at...

Re: Puzzling Midway DEFEAT

First of all, that's a very impressive accomplishment. I won a victory, by the skin of my teeth on the second attempt, by sinking only one IJN carrier, damaging another substantially, and sinking most of the invasion troop transports. I can't explain why you wouldn't have gotten a victory with superi...

Re: How do you switch between bombs and torpedoes on planes

I also cannot switch the USN torpedo bombers even after applying the hotfix and starting from scratch. I wouldn't expect the SB2C, or any dive bomber, to be fitted with torpedoes, but I don't pretend to have expert knowledge about that. However, fitting torpedo bombers with bombs was fairly common -...

When do the blue question marks appear? Once into a scenario (in the campaign) I don't find them on any map.

Re: How to use Torpedos efficiently?

I have barely started playing this game, but if it were to be historically accurate, the Japanese torpedoes would be much more effective, particularly early in the war. The United States Navy had an inferior sub launched torpedo (Mark 14) at the beginning of the war, and the Bureau of Ordinance didn...

Nice touch in the Kursk scenario with all the Soviet AT guns. Good to have infantry to take them out.

Re: [Axis Campaign] Panzer General Classic for PzC (beta4)

Here's a surprise -- an oil pumping station in the Causcasus (Stalingrad) scenario. My instinct is to capture it and use the oil, but I suspect I should destroy it like all the other Soviet units. What do you think?

Re: [Axis Campaign] GTPG v1.12 (16/03/14)

I try not to get sucked into these controversies, but I have played every version of Panzer General except Star General, right up to the present mods available here. I have gone on record as saying I prefer a good playing game to an "historically accurate" game. Now, it seems I will be contradicting...

Re: [Axis Campaign] Panzer General Classic for PzC (beta2)

I'm really enjoying this. Now I've finished the Balkans and when I proceed, to my surprise I am sent to Barbarossa. Surprise because I thought I would get kicked back to the main menu or something. What happens if I try to play Barbarossa in Beta 2?

Re: [Axis Campaign] Panzer General Classic for PzC (beta1)

This works flawlessly as far as my play so far -- presently in the middle of Low Countries. I am an old wargamer from farther back than I will admit, but I made the transition to computer wargames in the 90's. I always favored game play over historical accuracy, which I have always been a little sus...

Re: Germany at War: Barbarossa 1941 Released!

Well, a little more playing and I've gotten better about using the interface, but it still could be simpler. It's a mistake, and one I admit to having made, to expect this game to behave like Panzer Corps. In fairness, you do get to play campaigns, only as the German side, gain experience in core un...
