Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

I'm not a big fan with the way push back is currently implemented either. I dislike the ability to use a cheap line of troops who you support intermittently with full or partly perpendicular units that prevents the unit to front from being pushed back but the other units to be pushed or routed openi...

Re: Game play decision to base victory on rout % vs. objectives

I don't mind it being in the center. The problem is being on the edge and large enough to protect your army. Being forced into the center creates options while someone turtling limits them.

Re: Game play decision to base victory on rout % vs. objectives

In regards to your first response I'm pointing out that if you had desired to deploy in the back corner then ostensibly that should be the center point of the battle not the back corner. By adopting strategies in back corners you are undermining the core of the game. The 24 turn timer is actually no...

Re: Game play decision to base victory on rout % vs. objectives

There are a variety of scenarios available to be played already. What is at issue are scenarios for open battle. Now the argument regarding troop type and terrain isn't valid under this context. Having an army that favors a particular terrain type is fine but should be no guarantee of it. Open battl...

Re: Game play decision to base victory on rout % vs. objectives

I have to disagree with the opinion that objectives don't apply. Currently you have a system that promotes turtling in competition. Especially so with the latest Slitherine run tournament which has stupid terrain for a fair battle. The Romans can occupy a front of hills with one flank anchored on wo...

Challenges up for Pantherboy and Waterhead1985.

pw - tournment

I used pot luck for the terrain.

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Regarding the picking of armies debate - As a compromise between Pete's stance of helping newbies by automatically allocating stronger armies for them if he feels they have made a bad selection and Richard's stance of throwing them in at the deep end and making them learn by their mistakes (aka 'Na...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

I also have no problem with players treating their league season as if it was a campaign and working out where they think they can win and where they think they might need to be more defensive. You have hit the nail on the head regarding the problem. Did you enter the forest to avoid battle or win?...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

( Btw, I still would prefer more than one Roman and more than one Carthage army in each division but I see I am in a minority so will shut up!) I am enjoying reading this discussion. I think I just stopped duplicate lists so you still could get different versions of Romans fighting each other...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Next season we will be moving to a situation where players will only score a point from a drawn match if they have inflicted 20% or more losses on an opponent, so a battle will have to occur for players to get anything at all from a match (see the poll). With the re-start rule this should substanti...
