AAR - 2 games

Hi All, I played 2 games of FoG:R with some or all of the amendments. My first game was against a cavalry heavy Russian army. My second game was against a Border Reiver army. I can't really tell you much about what the Russians or Border Reivers had, but my army was as follows: 800 AP Later Danish (...

Re: Points Values - the whole damn lot

Guys, I'm about to play my first game with the amendments, and am trying to work out my list.

From what I can see, in my Danes which has:

Dragoons, Pike&Shot, Shot, Regimental Guns, Determined Horse and Medium Artillery, the only cost change is -1 point for average DH. Is that correct?

Re: Artillery:Foot ratio - proposal

Just to clarify, is it the intent that anything on foot count? Could I have 4 stands of artillery and 18 stands of LI/Dragoons? I don't know why you'd want to, but do we want to make it battle troops, or any infantry will do? Thus far, tournaments using this rule have always specified battle troops...

Re: Artillery:Foot ratio - proposal

OK, and how is that one going to be worded to handle multiple artilery units? "For each Battle Group of Medium or Heavy Artillery, and army must contain: - 12 stands of infantry, if the artillery BG is 2-3 stands - 18 stands of infantry, if the artillery BG is 4 stands Example: An army that wishes ...

Re: Cavalry - a package of proposals

Colonies and Conquest Japanese samurai cavalry and Hatamoto guards. In this instance you're not talking about the bow armed Samurai cavalry, correct? If so, I think this would be great. You have the divide line where Ashigaru start being counted as MF instead of Warrior and also the mounted as well...

Re: Cavalry - a package of proposals

Mounted delaying foot forever if the foot don't shoot. Less of a problem in Fog R. Yes, this is true Kevin, but what Timmy says has some merit. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I can just imagine in eastern and American armies where there is a few 'non-shooty- types, and early armies with Pik...

Re: Determined Horse points benchmark

The points in the official proposal represent a significant reduction for DH. With all the advantages that DH have over Horse I fear this latest suggestion is a step too far. But, Geoff, you've always thought that the DH/Horse interaction was 'about right' which many don't agree with, and I think c...

You're right that it's right. SOMEONE will take a BG of 4 guns, and then cry (rightly, unless you updated it as you have) that they keep fighting at 2 guns.

Apart from the significant numbers of Horse with Light Lance that is
As I said, I don't know the lists well enough. I didn't think many horse had lance.

I think that Determined Horse are better that Horse, but not so much better as they are currently costed.

Re: Artillery:Foot ratio - proposal

The following point is being given a topic of its own as the other points in the original post are to be implemented. For every base of Medium/Heavy Artillery in an army 6 bases of foot Battle Troops must be taken. As there has been feedback as to how this would affect eastern armies - which I thin...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

Of course... that's should be the unwritten disclaimer on everything you or I or anyone else posts. Sure, and I wasn't trying to suggest otherwise, but what I was trying to say in a round-about way was 'I don't think that's true' :). As far as the Japanese, just the fact that the lists allow "Ashig...

Re: Better Armour - proposal (updated)

If something is a "no brainer" option, then there is a balance problem, either with the simulation or the point costs. True, but just because someone says it doesn't mean it's true. I've often pondered armour. In certain situations it most definitely would be a no-brainer, but in other situations l...

Re: Updates - where we are at

Commanded shot changes were met with broad approval although some people didn't use them and were indifferent. One comment was why does a BG lose CS when pursuing? That player has far more extensive knowledge of the TYW than me and he recalled an instance of horse with CS routing the enemy, then re...

Re: Duty and Glory - proposal

If we end up saying 'stuff you guys, bad luck, go whinge to someone who cares, you'll lose players (and FoG:R isn't being run at CanCon this year due to lack of players, so, I think we've got to be careful here IMHO). Not a bad point, but I would suggest that there are two other factors that also d...

Re: Sundry List Changes - proposal

Having just refought Breitenfeld a couple of times I was considering Early Tercios from the Early 30YW Catholic list which are 12 bases and therefore not GBGs. Ah, ok, well, I must admit I haven't played much with GBG's, but I would have thought once you get to 12 bases it would be prudent to go up...

Re: Determined Horse at Impact

Well, for starters, because they made a big deal of it. In practically EVERY game of FoG:R a bg of mounted is broken. If that signified '4' then the Grenadiers a Cheval et al breaking a BG wouldn't have been noteworthy. The noteworthy thing was that the single company of grenadiers at the head of t...

Re: Determined Horse at Impact

Either which way, I think that it's still (nearly) impossible 4 bases of Elite DH to destroy 5 BG's of Average DH... especially in one charge (which I understand is what happened). No idea why you think it would need to break 5 enemy BGs. With the caveat that there is no specifically defined scale ...
