Re: Pre-Battle Initiative
However the rules go on to mandate that if I win the initiative I must be the invader and choose a terrain type from my opponent's list. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks this is wrong. Limiting terrain choices reduces variety, one of the appeals of the period. It also assumes the better ge...

Re: Warfare 2020 Theme
Well done on the introduction of a handicap system, Graham. That's the first positive step I've seen to try and get more players playing FOG-AM (or, conversely, prevent us continually losing players). I hope it's blatantly obvious to all by now that if some of the top ranked players keep treating th...

Re: CAMPAIGN 2020 2-3 May
Fairly predictable but our Milton Keynes hotel booking has just been cancelled.
As with David and Lynda, if the situation changes I'll be there - but things aren't exactly looking good.

Re: CAMPAIGN 2020 2-3 May
End of story! It is set around the Palmyran Empire
If you're going for 'what ifs', what if Alexander had gone West instead of East and there wasn't a Roman Empire?!

Re: CAMPAIGN 2020 2-3 May - Palmyrene Empire...
This empire didn't extend all the way to Italy, so we appear to have something of a problem. For a theme clearly set around Palmyra, if you win the initiative against Romans you only get choose Italian terrain. Furthermore, it's highly unlikely that you'll fight in steppes if facing a Roman opponent...

Armenian Allies...
An army list question, rather than rules: The Palmyran list has Middle Armenian allies included. Anyone any idea when this alliance took place?

Re: Amendments to V3?
I am reliably informed that it's Slitherine who own the copyright to FOG-AM. A bit odd that a commercial company is responsible for the poor distribution of one of its products but that's the way it appears. So what is the future for FOG and its many (or dwindling) number of players? Not exactly bri...

Re: CAMPAIGN 2020 2-3 May
With six teams and five games I believe everybody's going to play everybody else once. If it's of any help to the organisers have a look at:
https://www.fixturelist.com/
You just input the names, press a button and you get a random round by round draw - and it's free.

Morning! You'll have to add them yourself (you can even change your votes). And I didn't read the post so only made one choice. It's early, I've not had a brew yet, I've got a cold. Add another for Rise a Knight and 1066

Northern Classic Theme Poll...
We're hoping that this year's Northern Classic will be even more successful than last year. Probably dates are 5th and 6th December 2020.
Here's your chance to pick the theme which most interests you. Up to three choices may be made.

Re: Northern Classic 2020
Some ideas for Option 1: (A) Steppes. Any army with Steppes in its territory choices or their historical opponents. Cavalry designated as Horse Archers may be fielded as unprotected LH instead. 800 points on a 6x4. (B) Armies and Enemies of Rome. Any Roman or opposing army from 300 BC to 300 AD. Bri...

Re: Amendments to V3?
Making it easy to get the books outside of the UK should be a given. Why not inside the UK, too? I recently bought a PDF copy of ADLG for just €5. Doing similar for FOG (and the army list books - which were included with ADLG) might just tempt some of the dozens and dozens of players we've lost to ...

Re: Amendments to V3?
.The difficulty in getting the books (and the cost) is preventing growth here in the US now. A great shame! I would have thought making the set available as a PDF would have been a smart move. Better to sell some at, say, a tenner than none in book form. The world of FOG-AM really needs some positi...

Amendments to V3?
We've been playing with V3 long enough now to properly evaluate it. I think most players agree that this is the best version yet, with a quicker, more decisive gameplay. Unfortunately, as a successful rule set, FOG-AM is probably at its lowest level yet. It's clear from Tim Porter's recent end of ye...
