Re: Late Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Div D phoyle3290 - Jewish Revolt 66-135 AD defeats MikeMarchant - Roman 24 BC-196 AD - 42-9 I had really good terrain advantage making it very difficult for his legionaries to charge my zealots. Nice playing against you! Well done, phoyle3290 a well managed battle. Once you had the high ground, and...

Well written Mike! It's nice to see some names from the long forgotten FOG1 era battling it out once again.

PS You can come out from under that desk it's all over now

Thanks, Martin, I've managed to emerge now.

Re: Late Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Once again the battle is shaped and dominated by the terrain and it’s all on the Roman left flank. First a forest and then well ahead of the Roman deployment a stream, over which lies a range of hills stretching up to the Gepid rear. Hills which are entirely covered with rough terrain. None of this ...

Re: Poll on player army choices restriction

For my part, I quite like the idea. As with the FoG1 digital league, I find myself agonising over which army to take for competitive games and always want to try something new. I vacillate, I agonise, and inevitably I always selet my trusty Romans - simply because I know what I'm doing with them (to...

Division D Supervark (Lombards) yes the horsey types, Beat MikeMarchent (Romans) the footy types 49%-9% The terrain did not favor the Romans being open on his right flank and middle while the left flank had scattered trees. Whittling the superior Roman units down with light troops was a boon even t...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

A question for the historically better informed in our community: FoG necessairly deals only with what occurs on the battlefield, but what occurs on the battlefield is not the whole story. In fact, I would dare suggest that it's the lesser part of war. This might mean that we do things on the battl...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

Division D MikeMarchant (Roman 105-25 BC) defeated SawyerK (Seleucid 205-167 BC): 70/38 This was a batle shaped by the terrain. A largely open battlefield was dominated by large patches of rough ground and so the Romans deployed with as much MF as possible, while the Selceucids were unable to match...

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .

The Battle of Whirlpool Heights Lining up in their traditional chequerboard pattern, the Romans faced large numbers of zealots and raw pike opposite them but offset toward the Roman right flank. As the legionaries began their march forward, the Jewish army quickly darted off even further wide of th...

Re: The Rally Point (discussion and questions)

Dare I suggest that part of the problem might lie in the fact the game doesn't model professional armies terribly well. For the most part, the game deals with a collection of individual units, which might be apporpriate to an army of Gallic warband, but less apporpriate to an army like a late Repub...

Re: Skip Watching Opponent's Turn

Is there a way to skip watching my opponenet's turn? No there isn't. This is because of the way the system works. What is actually saved is the position at the start of the enemy turn, and a list of the events that occurred during the turn. The replay actually runs through those events and reconstr...

Skip Watching Opponent's Turn

Is there a way to skip watching my opponenet's turn? This option was always available in FoG 1. In a serious agme I want to watch my opponent's turn, but in a casual friendly, especially at the beginning of large battles, I don't want to waste the time watching every unit in his army advance slowly ...

Division D MikeMarchant (Roman 105-25 BC) defeated Bluefin (Syracusan 280-211 BC): 60/58 This was a really tough battle, as the numbers suggest, and it could have gone either way. But, at the end of the day, Mars was behind us and the luck fell our way. Thanks for a really great game, Bluefin, and ...
