Re: Why No Pacific Campaign?

If you want a Pacific War game, you can try Sudden Strike 4 which has a very good pacific war dlc.
Another new game with mostly naval combat is Strategic Mind: The Pacific

Re: People's General, Space General etc

braccada, did you play Age of Wonders III? I remember People's General there were random locations used in each battle and there was even Stalingrad. There were a lot of early Warsaw Pact units and helicopters that attacked viciously in the beginning so I always hunkered down and awaited the storm e...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

You actually did set up battlegroups all around Bastogne. I only had units in northwest, west and south. It seems you have more ground units and I have more airplanes. I can't adjust it either cause I put down all my land units even weak garbage units like a KV-2 gift from Russia and a Panther that ...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Buffalo, did you get a full victory or marginal? I think the difference is huge on this mission. Were you able to clear the central urban district? The last objective in the east... did you clear that last? I think you didn't deploy in the area so you must have fought your way west to east through t...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Buffalohump, I've been playing the Bastogne scenario and been losing everytime. I was able to bomb the evil McAuliffe brute out of the game before he eliminated my units, but I have a new problem now. When my troops approach the central urban mass of the town, my infantry units are savagely attacked...

Re: Fighter Escort

An easy duct tape style fix for this problem is to give the player many more command points for air so both fighters & bombers can coexist in a meaningful way.
If that doesn't fix the problem, that means you haven't added on enough duct tape.... I mean command points.

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Thanks for help in this thread. The Bastogne mission is reasonable now. I'm doing two attacks: one in the south and one in the west so I have more attack power instead of 6 weak attacks. The monster TD is being bombed down to a normal TD thanks to knowing where it is. Maybe this is a bit unfair to k...

Re: Heroes?

I remember Panzer General 2. There was a Liberator leader that gives you more prestige when you takeover towns. And a tank leader that gives another attack.... maybe after you destroy a unit I think make called Blitz. Can we still play PG2? Does it work on modern computers? Where can we get it? Did ...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Okay you have given me hope for a better Bastogne experience. Spot the monster with aircraft then try to rope a dope him with infantry while my armor hide in a thick forest and whimper.

Re: How to use 8.8cm FlaK 36 to best effect?

Buffalo, I will try using a towed 88 next time. I have to resist my tendency to go all tanks (about 6 actually not many cause I use a lot of infantry and aircraft) and infantry with a few arty and maybe have more AT and arty with less tanks instead. The latewar in the East seems like the same thing ...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Buffalo that sounds like good strategy. If Patton gets his horde into the town it would make it too hard I think. I will go with the south then. As for luring Big Mac into rough terrain, my problem was that he appeared out of the fog of war along with Patton's horde and instantly wiped out a unit of...

Re: How to use 8.8cm FlaK 36 to best effect?

I read a lot about hapless German soldiers in latewar WW2 and I felt sorry for them trying to survive the terrible Red storm grinding them down with massive artillery barrages and massed armor & infantry attacks, so I wish they had had more armored support. The infantry often relied on small numbers...

Re: How to use 8.8cm FlaK 36 to best effect?

I tried to train a new 88 in 43 and it was a disaster as you said. What I did in an earlier game is use a couple of Marders in early war to get XP and then transformed them into a latewar AT usually Jagdpanthers which I like a lot. I wish Germany had made lots of Jagdpanthers instead of costly proje...

Re: How to use 8.8cm FlaK 36 to best effect?

Well there's no magic, you use it very carefully. The thing is, the 88 is far, far better than any AT the Germans have, at least until 1942 when the Stug 3 series comes out. Even after that, it still has advantages- tank destroyers have virtually no soft attack and so basically can't fight back aga...

Re: GS 42-43 Messina ends early

Amazingly though, there were reliable Italian army units in Africa and Sicily. Let's not forget the Italian troops at the Ostfront, especially around Stalingrad: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Army_in_Russia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_participation_in_the_Eastern_Front Those are i...

Re: GS 42-43 Messina ends early

Loyalty is a difficult word to apply to the Italians as there were few, if any, that stayed on the same side throughout the whole war. The country betrayed the Allies to start the war, but also betrayed the Axis. Mussolini was betrayed, but he also betrayed Italian efforts at democracy by making hi...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

You are welcome... :D just to be historical Just as a thought, while I like playing with historical setups and historical unit compositions, this also leads to historical outcomes most of the times... Very true! I thought about this often when playing WW2 games like this. Bastogne was a dism...

Re: Monstrous McAuliffe at Bastogne

Thank you PeteMichell. I wonder why it always moved down to the south before appearing. If I was the designer, I would have made Mr. Nuts as an infantry unit nestled into the larger urban mass next to the artillery. I've had good luck in that scenario by attacking from the NW of Bastogne and he alwa...

Re: GS 42-43 Messina ends early

I took the branch of defending Salerno and Anzio so I don't know how the anti-Italian branch in Taranto goes. I guess that gives the campaign some replay value although that is doubtful cause there's no way I can finish the Bastogne mission. I haven't read anything about the fate of the Italian equi...
