Re: Artillery:In Front or Beside??
What about a slow advance...moving behind prolonging artillery...keeping that cavalry or infantry unit behind protected from ranged fire?

Re: "Other firing"
That wording from p. 32 seems a rather light peg from which to hang such a heavy principle...and the examples only show the supporting fire...but if that's the basis and interpretation, ok.

"Other firing"
Page 33, right-hand column, regarding flank and rear attacks says: "A move that satisfies all of the above is considered to have assaulted the flank or rear of the enemy unit. IF THERE IS NO OTHER FIRING THAT COULD STOP THE ASSAULT COMPLETING , the unit being assaulted drops a level of cohesion...

Re: Lodi AAR x2
The French setup substantially as in the previous AAR. The Austrian setup puts the Grenz at the bridge edge, with Vukassavitch's artillery a few inches behind them. One of Rosselmini's two large infantry units is placed between the buildings; the other is at the left of the building on the Austrian ...

Lodi AAR x2
This scenario uses the armies as set forth in the Pre-Lodi AAR. (Again, my pics didn't transfer). Two AAR's in one; the second AAR follows this one. A river separates the town of Lodi on the left (south) from the two buildings on the right. A single bridge spans the river. French artillery has deplo...

I see this is really old...but it's all new to me.
I think Austrians, with or without the Hungarian knots, look best in front of French artillery

Re: Pre Lodi AAR
I decided to skip the pictures... The only terrain and obstacles are a hill, on the Austrian right; a rock near the center which is just an obstruction; and a long low wall at the Austrian center. On the French left, Beaumont’s cavalry division is set to exit to the left to search for a ford. Cerbon...

Pre Lodi AAR
Battle Report – Pre-Lodi The forces are based on the French and Austrian forces at Lodi under Bonaparte and Sebottendorf, respectively. Some sources say the Austrians were exhausted and underfed at this battle while the French infantry was of veteran quality by this time. The quality assigned to the...
