Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

Could have it so the units sometimes stay stuck in melee but don't push back, like how pike keils work in Pike and Shot.

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

Sounds great to me. Shouldn't alter the gameplay too much, will look nicer, and frankly, I think warbands and phalanxes won't be made OP by the change. And the need for a breather to rest and reform makes sense as an explanation. Legions might be a little strong, but then they were, weren't they? I ...

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

No pushbacks on steady units could be an easier solution to program, though I'm unsure as to what the effects on balance would be.

Re: Automatic pushback/pursuit with infantry absolutely ruins this game

I don't have as much of a problem with the mechanic as you do, but your solution would be completely reasonable I think. That being said, the designers are very knowledgeable, and there is a difference of opinion here, not ignorance. You have legitimate points, but you are coming on a little strong.

Re: What periods for rounds 3, 4,5 and 6

Time period aside, I think a change needs to be made either to army size or map size. I think we need to either be Large Armies/Very Wide or Medium Medium. Right now, the two armies naturally tend to stretch to the "edge of the world" which is a bit annoying IMO. Medium size battles tend to leave fl...

Re: What periods for rounds 3, 4,5 and 6

I think that the Extra Nations armies, while fun, are not as well balanced as those in vanilla. That doesn't make me necessarily opposed to playing them, just something to keep in mind. I would enjoy either Wars of Religion or the Poles. For Extra Nations, Eastern followed by Revolts. Rule Britannia...

Re: Any chance for real new gameplay features (not just new units) in the future ?

I haven't. I'm curious, but it looks a little difficult to use, and I'm a bit lazy about learning new systems. Not that I need my games idiot proof, but an official mode would have the UI to keep the learning process simple.

I still think the Ikki are a fine army. I look forward to testing that theory when we switch sides.

Re: Future DLCs

Well, Rise of Persia is next, which is something like 800BC-600BC. Richard has hinted previously that earlier periods are a distinct possibility. More certain is the approximate ending period - 1494ish, the start of Pike and Shot. Of course, even that is conjecture.

Re: New units add suggestion

New units should not be included just because a weapon existed. They should be included if they had a meaningful role in battles. The hand held crossbow may or may not have been used on any notable scale in the Roman army. Even if it was, the accounts of their use in battle is limited. Archaeologica...

Re: Any chance for real new gameplay features (not just new units) in the future ?

As above, choices should be available if they were actually available at the time. Even if they were, were they used often enough to warrant inclusion in all battles in the game? For example, the much requested testudo formation is not included in the game. Now, it's likely that it was used in a few...

Re: Any chance for real new gameplay features (not just new units) in the future ?

I don't think this is a good idea unless other, separate balance work is done. As things are, armies that consist of many cheap units are advantaged against those that rely on expensive, larger units (warbands, phalanxes). Simply having reserves behind, whether to prevent pushbacks or flank enemies ...

Re: untrained Peasant Rabble

Yes, a later patch for PnS made it so non mixed melee infantry can charge horse. It may be an oversight; after all, the mob have neither impact nor melee capability. Or, the units are uncommon enough that it wasn't considered a big deal. Battles is PnS involve more open terrain and more cavalry, so ...
